Power corrupts and of course, Power pollutes! But still in today's day and age, power is dangerously touted as the key to economic growth and rightly so. If I were to state that to state that the life of an individual is directly dependant on the energy consumed by him, it would, I am sure, bring a look of scorn to your face. But that's the sordid truth that we have to live with. The high standards of living that urban India is getting used to require a lot of energy. Notionally, we never account for the energy that we consume or think of ways and means to save energy, always assuming that we have and always will have enough of it. Do we? And more importantly will we ever? A huge and cheap source of energy is essential for ending poverty in a country like ours where the divide between the rich and poor is only widening. Our current usage of energy is unsustainable...
