Sir,
The exemption limit for a handicapped employed person is Rs 50,000 when the handicap is evaluated to be 75% or less. I would like to bring to your notice that a handicapped person has to spend more than the normal person for travel especially to work and work related places. I find that I have to spend twice the amount that a normal person would need to spend for travel and I dont mean by train,I mean within the city where we work.A person with 75% handicap finds it very difficult to travel and generally to live one\'s routine daily life. The cost of everything is high,be it medecines, treatment, travel, shopping is also very difficult as door delivery becomes more expensive by the day.
Hence I would request the honourable Minister to increase the exempltion limit U/S 80U so as to encourage more handicapped persons to llive a comfortable life and get into the mainsteam of active life. Incidentally, I am a college lecturer teaching French in Madurai, since the last 30 years.
Iwould request that certain tax exemptions be announced for organisations that recognise the talent of the handicapped and utilise them by integrating them into the mainstream. I hope to get a positive reply from you sir.
Thank you.
