P. Chindaram\'s Budget for 2008-2009 presented to Parliament touches all sections of the society. Though it is being termed as an election year budget but then tell me which government in the world does not provide goodies to the masses prior to election year. Yhis is happening in USA also the world\'s greatest democracy. In his budget the Finance Minister has done a tremendous job by raising the slabs for the women and senior citizens as well as raising the exemption limit. Providing relief to persons coming for medical plicies for parents, he has done two way job, putting responsibility on the children for their paraents and giving them relief in income tax. Mahatma Gandhi said India lives in villages and by providing relief of Rs.60,000 crore waiving the loans for small and marginal farmers is a great boon to the crippling rural economy when the agriculture production is going down. At the same time he has kept in mind the burden is not loaded on banks waiving these loans. They are being provided equity in three years of the waived amount. Reduction of excise and custom duties on a number of items product is welcomed. It is to bring these duties at par with the Asian countries. The consumer as well as the manufacturers have to be happy. However by not tinkering with any of the existing concessions for the corporate world and rasing the tax on short term gains from 10 to 15 percent though appears to be a disincentive but looking to long term investment it is wonderful. Bye and large it is very good budget and historically if one looks to all previous budgets, it is a dream budgt touching all and sundry.
