The fact that a new airport is going to come up quite a distance from the existing city has been something known to everybody for a long period of time. If the government and local municipality authorities have not been proactive enough to ensure connectivity of the city and its peoples to the new airport why penalise the BIAL? Work on the road to connect the city to Devenahalli has been \"under progress\" forever with no clear end in site. Nor has any attempt been made to ensure that some other form of public transport be made available. Even if its just something as simple as hourly or half hourly pickups from specific pre-identified locations in the city by the spanking new gleaming range of AC\'ed Volvo buses that the KSRTC runs.
There has been no effort that has gone into making sure that the new airport will be a success from day one. Instead we have new campaigns launched every week or fortnight by...

Yes the debate about whether our mega cities require more than one airport is a truly interesting one. Here both the airlines as well as the government and private developers are not moving from there stated positions.

Lets look at the governments role:

First the government should see that the public monopoly is not replaced by private monopoly or oligopoly. The government makes several concessions to the private developer such as subsidies on land and all other facilities and the government should see that it is also factored into the revenue stream when calculating the fees or taxes imposed by the private developer on travelers and airlines. A regulatory mechanism has to be in place which oversees the gamut of developing airports.

Private Developers;

The private developers just cannot loot the passengers and the airlines by imposing exorbitant charges. Indian airline insudtry is in a nascent stage and the developers should see that the industry is nurtured. Airports have a long lease period and with the projected traffic developers...

I believe that the cities have adequate airports to suffice the needs as of now. What they need to do really is to improve the current infrastructure to meet international standards. The problem with the Indian politics is the root cause of these new airports sprouting all around the country. The politicians buy property near the proposed site before announcing to the public.

Most of the airports in the country run par below its full potential. The idea of maintaining an organization is not evident in the Indian way of life, most of these airports are kept untidy and adequate seat\'s, clean toilets etc are not provided. The absence of sky bridges do not go unnoticed to domestic and international passengers which does not make an airport look bad but if they are operating international I believe it is a must.

The necessity for new airports should not be a priority in a lot of new cities right now, they should be more focused on improving the...
