Ok..you've got everything u wanted on your news channel : facts & figures , national and international , weather and health and off course - Raju and Rakhi. A lot of things about "Television News" have changed - the pace , the content , the look.. basically the priorities - what hasn't changed is the good old discussion show. Typically a half hour discussion show has three experts , one for the motion , one against and one neutral. A primetime discussion show like our very own "Face the Nation" is generally based on the days top news which varies from channel to channel , for eg. A hindi channel would normally pick Raju Srivastav's ankle sprain as top news over America invading Iran. I call these discussions "Maggi Chats" : instant and non satisfying but a snack never the less. I have compiled a list of the top ten Television News Speakers. Evrything you wanted to know about "Reservations" but were afraid to ask - rather believe.

KRAMER v/s KRAMER
"Tum mujhe kya doge? Ye mera HAQ hai" the final words from one of the Pro-reservation protestors on the Great Reservation Debate conducted by our channel. It was an audience based show where we had both pro and anti reservation groups .The anti reservation audience comprised of doctors from MAMC and AIIMS .The pro reservation camp was from JNU. After the show the walk back, out of the venue was the longest that ive had in my life. The doctors were mocking the pro reservation students in a rather arrogant manner. I ve had interactions with both camps and have found that both parties are equally rigid . The anti reservation students would say "have primary education, have reservation on Economic basis rather than caste, what about merit, would you like to be operated on by a QUOTA doctor?" ...

It was Us v/s Them. In the Red corner was me , 5ft 11inches 75kilograms - the challenger.In the Blue corner was her, 4ft 10inches 90 kilograms the undisputed champion of the world.The bookies saw it as 10:1,against me.She was about my grandma's age so i thought i would show her some respect before the bout.I had no idea what i was about to run into. Sonia Gandhi had resigned,the BIG English news channels were to collide - again.Both the channels had planned their shows at the same time 8:00pm 'LIVE'.A senior BJP leader was on the menu for both parties,he was to appear on both channels at the same time."Who gets him first?yaar dekho jhagda mat karna" said his PA,but all of us knew what the link meant for both channels. Tic Toc Tic Toc Ti T t..t , my watch seems to blur ,my fists clinched , i turn to his personal secretary "Saab kahan hai yaar?" my cameraman waits ; Cut to :- the CNN IBN 'Headquarters' The show producer "2 minutes to roll are we getting him or not ,what is this ,where is the guest?" , my phone rings constantly ; Cut to : my boss, his boss ,PCR ,MCR ,input editors ,the Newsroom ,the Anchor...cut to - the VIEWER...zoom in now.. on me ,a real tight frame , all eyes on me...my eyes?? ----B L I N K---- "Welcome to 'Face the Nation' the show where we ask you the viewer the big question of the day.." its Rajdeep Sardesai with a new set of panelists evry weeknight at 10pm.Television Journalism in India is at its competitive peak ,with 'N'number of news channels and the same pool of guests - Politicians , lawyers , critics , actors , cricketers...
