Mesmerising Messi or ruthless Ronaldo?

Forget Rooney, forget Kaka and forget Sneijder, for there can be no doubting that Messi and Ronaldo are the only two men who can rightfully lay claim to the title of the world's best. They are the prime examples for a young boy who wants to take up this game as a profession in the future.
Ronaldo and Messi are probably the top two players in the world at the moment even though they are still so young. There are many similarities between them but at the end of the day there is always a comparison between the 'showman' - Ronaldo and 'shy-man' - Messi.
When you look at the goals scored this season Ronaldo is ahead of Messi with 31 goals across competitions but let's not take anything away from Messi who is just three short of Ronaldo and has missed lot of games due to injury. But anybody who has seen them both play this season would admit Ronaldo has been the better player (well Messi fans will surely have something to say about it).
People always have fingers to point out at Ronaldo that he is an arrogant man and does not perform at the big stage but I guess they need a reality check. The stage at which these players play - every game is important and every three points are considered at the end of the day. He has helped Manchester United win everything at the time he was at Old Trafford.
Talking about Messi -- well there will be only few people who can match his pace while he has the ball at his feet. He can just go in and out of defenders and score a goal in a blink of an eye. Messi has an advantage over Ronaldo in tighter areas where Ronaldo most usually fails to deliver. At times it appears that ball is stuck to Messi's feat and more often than not the little magician gets the better of the defenders.
Both players are blessed with unbelievably quick feet, have pace, love running at defenders and at the same time they can dribble and showboat, so in terms of skill and pace they are equal in their abilities.
Talking about Messi's performance most of the accolade should go to his team Barcelona. They have shown the world how the God plays football on the pitch. So with half a dozen world class players in the team and over that if you are Messi you surely have to be regarded and compared to the world's best like Maradona and Pele.
On the other hand Ronaldo's form and success mainly goes to Sir Alex Ferguson and his individual brilliance. One of the best trait that Fergie developed in him was allow him to play across the full width of the pitch. None of the greats of the game, Pele, Maradona, Cruyff or Platini, were restricted in their play either.
Messi tends to operate predominantly on the right-hand side of a 4-3-3 so is slightly more restricted but whatever the situation is he will never let you down and will score from the weirdest of angles.
The attention and comparisons between the Portuguese and the Argentinian will increase in the coming years, but at the moment there is no clear favourite. So let the debate begin and hope these two beauties provide us with more and more thrills and frills.
