The time when you are driving back from having shot your story is a tough one. You are left with images imprinted in your mind which are disturbing - and you feel guilty for walking away from the problem.

You think anyone really cares??? we are all very self consumed in our lives to bother about anything or anyone else... a river certainly could be of no alarming concern , its religious and mythological importance however could make it an issue... but still religion is also a matter of convenience, politicians will take up what suits them and creates vote banks. schemes will be announced because that way some hefty funds can be syphoned off. And if they actually clean the ganga ihow will the media take up the issue??? LOLZZZZZZZZZZZZ Welcome to the circus of democracy!!!!!

Was this a program on IBN? I missed it. Good post but then media brings out many good points which remain just that- a point and soon after forgotten. Why don't you guys try to be more proactive. Don't leave an issue after reporting. Why don't you call for the people to participate in a Ganga cleaning program. Its clear that our government is too corrupt and lethargic to initiate any such people's movement. Why doesn't mass media come forward. After all its the 4th pillar of democracy. For eg., set a date in January for Varanasi when all the volunteers would assemble and clean at least one ghat of Ganga. Of course the dangers of such an effort just becoming a propaganda machine for media is present but this is our best chance. I am sure if you ask for people to join out to clean Ganga maa we will come out in huge numbers. May be this could be the precursor to other changes in our society. Or may be i am being too optimistic.

Well i think we must take the help of the pundit community and the fundamentalist community. If they tell the people that dirtying the Ganga will in some way cause harm to them in terms on the Paap and Punya fundas of Hinduism then may be it will click to the common people. May be all the Shankaracharyas can help. The VHP and Shiv Sena could be NGOs and might take the lead if suitably convinced and brainwashed by the politicians on whom pressure needs to be put by the media.

I am really surprised why the organisations like the VHP, Shiv Sena and the pundit community is not doing anything about the pollution of Ganga? They raise such a hue and cry about Valentines day and other such things then why cant they do anything about this? why cant they volunteer and do some cleaning activities of Ganga? Most of our rivers are badly polluted...look at Yamuna river!! it is almost a dead river...if we can tolerate the dying of our holy rivers then anything is possible in this country.

I was under the impression that Media was the most powerful and zestful sector of our society...! If the Pioneer or the Propeller of the society will be asking the question that What To Do or How It Can Be Done.. then what will be the aftershocks of that. Can anything more be done with that Video other than monetary outcomes...Video can be an eye-opener.

The world is running at such a fast pace that most of us are not left with tine to think of even the hazards faced by nature, what to talk about the natures healing process. There are many who are making a concerted effort for checking the environent but that obviously is not enough. It is time the government takes this more seriously and drafts laws to check the same. Like the trafic police we need to have enviroment police system in place.

Hi Jasdeep,
Please dont give reasons like we dont have time when you can do all the things that are useless like watching movies, T.V and going on trips and relaxing on weekends, so please make time and dont say we dont have time. Stop asking the govt to take action for everything because its like asking a dumb person to sing, the govt will not do anything thats confirmed, WE THE PEOPLE OF INDIA HAVE TO GET TOGETHER AND TAKE ACTION TO ENSURE WE HAVE A CLEAN AND GREEN INDIA. So the next time you throw paper on the road or spit on the roadside, jump a signal, bribe an officer ask yourself if that action is right. This is not only for you but for all the people in India who do all the stuff they should not and blame the government convieniently.
Please Please wake up people and we can have a clean and green India
