basker If congress sings caste equations and reservations it is all honey to your ears and you try and talk about equality, secularism, opportunity to everyone and all that bla bla but when the same is used against congress you are crying foul. What is this logic madame?

Raj After 60 years of Independence, India is looked upone by the rest of the world as an emerging power. Unfortunately, it is our Politicians who cling to caste only to hold on to their political ambitions. We all should think of each others as Indians first and forget caste and creed. This attitude is disgusting and as long as there are people who who bring caste divisions into our society, India can never be a stable democratic country, no matter what the Politicians promise and say.

arunsathya mam,it is only natural for maya to support her core bank-dalits..y the entire media iz against her? the same media predicted a hung assembly in UP... the media frenzy leaders of other parties were given adequate(or excess?) coverage but none cud be spotted from BSP,finally the results showed who were strong in the grass root level... maya has the support of UP ppl in curbing terrorism and cracking law and order prob.... and when comapred to BJP and Congress which r more communal ...BSP is far better..after all it did not involve in any anti-muslim or anti-sikh riots...Hailing from TN myself and a forward caste too... i hold no prejudice against her... leaders like her from the suppressed classes r the need of the hour..and rememeber regional parties r becoming powerful day by day.. both the nationalist aprties hav shown their true color in Hogenakkal issue....for instance. it iz time regionl parties come together,no surprise i can see her as PM one day..

Anand Sagarika, What do you expect from a leader who is talking just a couple days after SC verdict on Reservations, that Reservation should also be extended to upper caste economically poor. She talked about creamy layer and tell me one more politician speaking this way. She has not changed the social engineering concept. But when a saint comes along risking herselves, Sharks come to eat.. Rahul Gandhi a dalit lover suddenly? Why go jail for dalits supporting Tikait? Why not an article on him of suddden change? It is very important she succeeds, other wise the bridge she is establishing between all communities will collapse, her experiment to power is tested by pitching on dalits who want to divide the society. Please help her win or we perish all. She has to develop the state and deliver or we are in trouble of people like Arjun Singh who doesn't give his chair or his son's for BC/SC/ST but want to divide the society. We must be careful with sharad yadav, Ramvilas paswan who are against creamy layer implementation of reservation for self business. Rahul going jail -why pinch my tax rahul? go party in columbia.

vishrant why should mayawati care about what kabir says... kabir can not bring vote to her.. she is a politician .. she needs vote .. not enlightenment...she will do whatever brings her votes... a good politican is one who can recognize .. the direction people are going .. and jump ahead of the march ... and start shouting what people wants to here.... that's what politician is all about .. it is a leader who leads the people on a new direction... show them something new .. but than leaders don't get vote... mayawati will continue on the same track as long as people are ready to listen to it .. and give there vote for it.

Tamrakshar Secondly, she tries to prove -- by showing the examples of Mayawati's coming down heavily on Jat leader Tikait, Rahul Gandhi, SP MP Atiq Ahmad etc -- that Mayawati has given up her concept of Sarvajana Samaj. This magical concept of social engineering was framed by Mayawati in the 2007 U.P. Assembly Elections mainly targeting the poor Brahmins, alienated Thakurs, and OBCs. I think none of the characters, who have been under attack from Mayawati, belong to the above-mentioned list. So, factually, it is incorrect to say that Maya has reverted to her earlier policy. Now, politically, I think her onslaught against Rahul Gandhi is quite natural, as Rahul has been targeting her core constituency: the Dalit vote bank. The mode of the language used may not be suave, but everyone knows Indian politics is a very dirty game, and Maya is not the first person who has used such kind of language.

Finally, Sagarika ji comes up with certain statistics (as usual of a journo, she does not disclose the source) showing that Maya has not put forward a "transformative vision of UP's development". This is the height of hypocrisy. In her earlier terms as a CM, under the coalition government, she was in the office for very brief periods of June 3, 1995 – October 18, 1995; March 21, 1997 – September 21, 1997; May 3, 2002 – August 29, 2003. As a single party, Maya has been in power since May 13, 2007: even one year has not passed, and already the anti-Dalit (by the way, I am not a Dalit) media pundits are up against her!

Finally, I don't see anything wrong in building a massive 47m high statue of B.R. Ambedkar. People come, people go, but these things do stay. I hope the statue will be artistic and marvellous in nature.

Tamrakshar Fallacious arguments of Sagarika Ghose

The article "Back to anger and hatred" written by Ms. Sagarika Ghose is both logically untenable and factually insincere. But before explaining my point of view, I must make it very clear at the outset that I have neither love, nor hatred for Mayawati Naina Kumari -- the 23rd, 24th, 30th and 32nd Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh -- or for that matter the Bahujan Samaj Party.

Now, coming back to the issue, Ghose writes,

" It is this terrible age old injustice that gives Mayawati her permanent unquestioned political constituency, a constituency which will die for behanji, a constituency of which every other party is jealous."

So, from the above statement, we can say that Mayawati has a permanent Dalit vote bank, and it is a natural conclusion that she will try her best to preserve that vote bank. However, in the next sentence, Ms. Ghose proclaims,

" Yet in her fourth term as chief minister, as head of a majority BSP government, Mayawati seems in danger of squandering the gains of the last decade of mobilisation, which that great organiser Kanshi Ram, had so painstakingly achieved."

To prop up her contradictory statement, at the later part of the article, Ms. Ghose writes,

" Vote for me simply because I am a dalit or a Hindu or a Muslim, may work in the first election, to secure an initial mandate. But the mandate fritters away if the demagogue fails to grow up and become a bridge builder between communities."

But she conveniently forgets that it is her fourth term as a C.M. of UP.

Manjula A Shanmugasundaram Say what you will, but Mayawati is rising and some day she will be the Prime Minister of India. And after a gap of 3500 years, India will again be in the hands of the native Indians.
