As Bangalore votes, H R Venkatesh blogs live on his Blackberry.

So many people are claiming their names are missing. This is a stupid excuse. For weeks to gether, the Election commission had put up on the entire list (pdf formats + search)on the internet. The ones who are blogging now, certainly had access to this !!! If we are true IT capital, people should have been using the net more meaningfully. Also, almost 95% of my office did not vote - reason.. my name is not in the list. Most are from outside Bangalore (Kanndigas included !!!), but even my name was not there till 3 months back, when I went to the BBMP office and submitted my application. A 2 page form is it takes, but people would not bother, and instead crib that politicians do nothing. Its a shame. I dont think the 50% of Bangalore who did not vote + the ones who did not bother to have their names enrolled should have any say in the development of this state and more so Bangalore.
The only way to solve the problem is to make voting mandatory, with of course a choice to vote for a "Null Vote". This way those who oppose elections by not voting would also have opined their concerns.

My daughter. wife and self went into vote around 3:00 P.M at Kendriya Vidyalya. We did not have any slip but had the V.I.C. The cop at the door asked us if we had any " slip ". When we said no, he asked us to enter the room, find out if our names were there in the list. If yes, vote, and if no, leave. We could locate our names in the list with difficulty, but all three of us voted to our satisfaction. The officials were quite co-operative and friendly. I didn't find any hanky panky things going on .

Even though my family's name was missing, we called up the Election Commission's help desk they promptly gave the slno, booth no and all the information we wanted. You should have the keenness to vote and exercise your rights.

This is the first time I am voting. I was keen to see the voter turn out from Bangalore after so many awareness campaign by media (print & TV), radio& NGOs. Even cable operator had a scrolling for exercising voting right. But I was disappointed to see low voter's turn out in Bangalore. Hats off to the rural people. In spite of most of them not being well educated they still understand the importance of voting.
Everyone is complaining about their name being missing in the voter list at the last minute. I would like to ask the people of Bangalore how many of them really made a sincere effort to enroll or to check their name in the electoral roll, in the last three months.

Even though i have moved to bangalore recently, my name was on the list and i voted.. so things are not that bad. The CRPF was doing a fab job and i think we shd be more +ve with what we can achieve..As for your logic for voting, it is unfortunate somebody like you should advance such a logic and write proudly on a blog..what right then do you have to criticise any of the ones who come to power?

After delimitation wards also changed. So anyone of you had old voter id cards then to find out your name from the list is difficult. If you have serial number inaddition to your house number it will be easy. I am Bangalore South AC constituency and I also struggled to find my name. After 1 hour of juggling I was able to.

There are two kind of politicians. One is corrupt and will not aid development. Other is corrupt but will make money from the development. It takes more imagination and effort for this kind of politician. I voted for the second kind of politician. There is no good by voting for a bat. If you decide who will be comparatively better and will form the government vote for them. Thi collective thinking will form a stable govt and we might see some development. Corruption with development (Tamil nadu, Andhra) does not bother me as much as corruption without development (UP, Bihar).

the blog made for good reading. however , i was shocked to learn that this correspondent is voting for the first time..nonetheless he did..thats commendable..unlike so many i know who are so lazy to get out and vote and are probably waiting for the voting machines to come to them to cast their vote...im writin this at 5.25..which means its curtains down on the voting process...n a tv channel tells me the final voter turnout is around 55%..not upto the mark i must say..with all the reforms in place..lets just hope we get a firm majority this time and a stable party..

How the brutual state is it, when one sees that they are reluctant in distributing cauvery river water and created another big issue in Okkenakal water issue too.Neighbouring state people won`t worry about the party who will claim the power, since everyone is aginst the neighbouring state in cauvery water (and okkenkkal water issue)and are very rude and uncivilised people.
