Pradeep As always, a topic chosen to get the think-tank stable. Religion and regional aspects have been a playing card for most of our illiterate leaders. Indeed, urban majority has to put in more thoughts before casting any vote to these regional chavunists.. Any kind of favouritism will further induce pain into everyone's life including locals and non locals. its better to treat everyone as Indian and focus towards our national improvement keeping in mind of all the individuals growth in the so called "IT-BT".. Great post.. you have put something thought-provoking into my mind...

Vivek Though the "localised" politicians would create more noise and visibility, theirs is largely a lost case. Economic development has to a great extent moved outside the scope of politics in Inda, thankfully.Whoever,'outsider' or 'insider' is more economically successful, will capture greater power, such has been the experience across history. What such chieftiens with 'tribal instincts' could achieve is a slowdown, in extreme case a stop, to the economic progress of the country. The effort on a national level, therefore, should be to discourage such voices and opinions and educate the local population to skill themselves for the race. Reservations will be a retrograde step. Look at very limited success that reservation inspired policy has achieved in the country.

Utsav 'Vote Bank Politics' would never let Indian villages or cities realize their true potential. People like Raj Thackery, Deve Gowda, Mayawati etc. are more than eager to play spoil sport. When 'Regionalism/Cast/Reservation' etc replace 'Development' from the agenda then nothing better can be excpected.
It all depends on 'We the People'..if only we realize what are the true motives of these politicians then we could make a diffence to our Country and our own lives.
Kudos to the IDEA of GLOCAL....i pray that our politicians adpt to GLOCALISM ASAP !!!

Sudhanshu Goel Hi Indi,

Sorry to hear about your case but what you are trying to tell is an exception case and cant be generalized. If you are facing so much problem every comapny has HR manager. I also work in bangalore and a north indian and had never faced such problem. I had worked under kannad manager and as well under north indian, and I will say both liked to have a team full of people from diverse culture and select people on there efficincy and knowledge.

Now India is no more just a country, its been recognized and had established globally. The point we should think is before being north indian or south indian we are indian and as our constitution says every indian has right to work and live in any part of india.

Just for the sake of votes politicans use state, castes etc.

more kiran pattar Sagarika,
I agree with one of the comment that managers who are non kannadiga's try to recruit people from their place.I would like to tell you that more than 50000 engineers come every year from all the engineering colleges from karnataka ...... with 15-20 % of kannadigas are in top positions in US and UK.Kumar malavalli ,arun Netravali, gururaj Deshpande ,manomurthy etc........Kannadigas dont do favourism in any field thats the reason why not much kannadigas are recruited properly.
One more thing is Mrs sagarika has written in her article as if the bangalore city is developing because of non kannadigas, which is not true.Bangalore started developing because of the importance given to the education by the local people in state government where as people from other places started to come to bangalore only after this software boom came. For Mrs sagariks's information karnataka has many no of intelectuals.Having 7 gyanapita awards to its kit stands at no one position in the country.

Maitri This is a dangerous situation. If the same thought process spreads to other states, then we can imagine what can happen.Only the voters can decide whether such people should be voted to power or not.Once Gowda and Raj are defeated other politicians will think twice before using formula no.44"divide and rule"

more PHILIP I donot want to comment on the regionalism aspect of this article which has been dealt with by many readers. The aspect that our planners and thinkers should be thinking about is the huge growth in our population . Population growth is not only a problem in India , but in many under developed and developing countries. World population in 1950 was 2.5billion , in 2006 it was 6.7billion and by 2050 (by modest estimates) 9.2billion. In one hundred years the world population will multiply by almost 4 times . At the time when India became independent our population was around 400million and by 2007 it has crossed 1000million . The drastic increase in population will give rise to fight for jobs , living space and even water. We have almost reached a stage where we cannot get large land areas for setting up new green field projects like steel plants. Population control is a complex issue (other than the sentimental ones) , because any drastic reduction in birth rate during a period will change the pattern of age groups within a nation. In recent times population control has not been receiving the attention it deserves and has been over shadowed by the topic of climate change . It has not yet been proved conclusively whether climate change is due to human activities , where as no one can dispute that population growth is due to human activity.

Vaijayanti Karve Sagarika, you wrote exact what i thought first when heard about the quota for Kannadigas. At this point of time, reference of Raj Thackre is obvious. I guess, haveing such politiccians around, no longer India can have pride on its federal republic structure. Who knows, such creatures will even dream of bringing changes to our constitution which protects the right of its citizens to work and work anywhere in the Indian Union. In the wildest of my thoughts, I fear that Britishers left 567 Rajwadas behind and these politicians are gearing up for fifty parts of New India. (Almost in every state some region is asking for the seperate state and eventualy it will also enter in the regional politics.) These are totaly Anti-national thoughts and speeches. They all should be put into jails for being anti-nationals as they are no different from terrorists outfits! Today's educated modern Indian with cross-cultural influence and inter caste, inter-region and inter-religion marraieges, does not know this language. Who knows, tomorrow, these leaders will stand up and say, Kannadigas should marry only Kannadigas or No Marathi girl from Mumbai can marry a non-Marathi man in or outside Mumbai! I feel that Such people should not be given even tickets to fight the elections for being anti-national and provokative. The one who infiltrates or the one who organizes explosions is not the only terrorist! Such politicians are no better than them!

Manohar Hey Sargarika nice post , u know basically all the metropolitan cities are really seen growth cause of migrants who actually are responsible for growth of economy of state & Finally the country , today Mumbai is a Financial Capital, politics is a separate issue but people must understand what they are doing now may ruin the future of themselves just for a small gain of votes they should not play with future of young INDIA there r many other cities to develop many other issues to do politics but issue of castes & Language will definitely disturb the secular picture of country
