Ah, the great Indian city! The lack of urban infrastructure destroying the infrastructure of the human soul. By 2020 Mumbai will have a population of 20 million. Bangalore, already with 6.5 million inhabitants has seen phenomenal growth. 300 million Indians... Read The Article
Leaders who preaches 'son of the soil' should be treated as terrorists.People who are desperate to protect their culture and language are actually projecting an image that their culture is dieing and they are desperate to protect it. They have to do something constructive to revive it. They should come up with innovative methods to revive their culture and language. Its defenitely difficult than throwing stones at non kannada films and FM channels, but that is the correct path. As far as the job reservation goes, in private sector which is the hot job market , the recruitment is purely based on merit and skills. If someone is asking for reservation, that projects an image that the locals their are less competant (which is not the case in Bangalore) and projects a bad image. Please note that this is a free country, and people have every right to move to anywhere in india, and do any job which is legal.

sometime back there was a concert in bengaluru. Sonu nigam tried to sing a kannada song. people "boo"ed and stopped him from singing. IT happens only in bengaluru and to only kannada. So people should stop talking globalisation/competition/constitution/democracy. This is all hypocrisy. Now karnataka is like pre independence India and rest of India is like Britain. We welcomed british people with open arms and they ruled us,ruined our culture economy, enslaved us. We fought for our freedom. Karnataka welcomed rest of india with open arms and the "outsiders" are ruling us, ruining our culture language... Someday we will fight for our freedom too.

Well, i have to agree with you. Mumbai and Bangalore are 2 best examples, where one can see this huge regionalism coming. But then, this is the new way of getting the support of the locals. I live in bangalore, and I know for that fact, that most of the voters here are kannadiga's. Now telling them this election manifesto with preference for kannadiga's is going to fetch anyone and everyone the votes.. So finally its vote politics.. and same with mumbai.. who knew raj thakare before all this? No one.. Now, everyone knows him. I am afraid, that some other place might take this as a working example, and a whole city/state/culture might get screwed up!

Mayur, marathis are becoming a minority.....ok so is mumbai or the state of maharashtra gonna collapse because of that...i mean yar more immigrants are coming but look at what the US is today and it is all immigrants there, i mean Barrack Obama....in a dominantly white country is running for president and most probably will make it. the point is the best guy for the job will do the best job for the state for the country. so we are indians and thats it no marathas no rajasthanis no north south.....grow up man....seriusly i used to wonder y people like Raj make such comments....well now i know.....and it saddens me as i am sure it saddens the rest of us

The whole discussion of `Locals and Outsiders` is ridiculous, we live in a democratic country `God Damm it !`. It would be good for India, if people and organizations stop fueling these petty discussion and contribute towards a development of nation and thyself, and if someone's feeling insecure about someone else's presence or prosperity, they should find ways to compete and prove a themselves in a legal and humanitarian way.
World see's Mumbai as another New York and Hong Kong - Land of dream's and opportunities.
Jai Hind.

what i would like to commment is do we really exercise our voting rights?..do we really belive on us?...after reading this article i really believe if we as urban citizen gets united then we can tell these politicians to look at development of the country as a whole and not to divide it on regional basis. The initial facts that Sgarica made that 300 million population is urban is encouraging and i believe the future is urbanization. In coming future not only mumbai or delhi but cities like jaipur, bhopal, ahemdbaad etc will be standing at par with them.so why don't we make our politicians realize about our urban need...why don't we make them realize that...yes!! there exist urban vote bank too which has got its own need and desire...which is far from political game and talks about real development. I believe in my voting rights... and i also believe somewhere it makes a difference!!! :)

I absolutely agree with Sagarika. In this era of globalisation, why are we fighting over petty issues like the origin?Be it the north or south, we finally hail from the same country. Is this something to be worried about when the world is heading towards development? why the bias within the country? have we ever realised that movement of people is one of the way for a state in turn a country to grow? all these people who claim to b a kannadiga, a marathi or whatever..how many of them have really done something for it? talking about Bangalore ..speaking in hindi or english is "hep". Then why create a big hue and cry about all this? if you are competitive enuff u thrive well, u dotn have to be from a particular place to reach heights. why throw blame on others when ball is in your court?
( Posted: Tuesday , May 13, 2008 at 20:35 )
you are absolutely right anu .the fake bigotism constructed by politicians in the mindset of people regarding the superiority of their mother tounge is nothing but vote bank politics.the only remedy to this rigmarole existing in our indian society is that people who understand this electoral strategy should go on to widen the mindset of dogmatic regionalists as much as possible
( Posted by smiti on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at 21:45 )
You two..anu and amiti are absolutely right...lets all of us become adamant about others culture....never learn the language of the state....do not make our guests comfortable in our state..be adamant...be narrow-minded....and our culture will prevail....perhaps this is what r suggesting....sorry ...but thats neither the culture of marathis ...nor of kannadigas...

It is surprising to see that there are educated persons who also believe in what raj thackeray preaches. No wonder why even after 60 years of independence we are being ruled by Laloos and that swiss bank have more indian balck money in their accounts than rest of the world combined. It is because of these supposedly "literate" people who claim that some place is theirs because they were born there forgetting that outsiders are the ones who have developed those places by contributing more to the system. And as far as outsiders are considered I am sure that most of them would be more than happy to go back and live in their own cities given job oppurtunities exist in their native places. And by the way dont forget that these outsiders are the one who have contributed most in getting the status of "Financial Capital" for Mumbai and "IT Capital" for bangalore.

Problem is not of caste and religion and education. Some people say that migrants have contributed a lot in development of the city. if it is so, why dont they contribute for their own state. How a man sleeping on footpath, railway station, go for toilets on sea-shore and railway tracks can contribute for development? Lalu, Abu Azami, Mulayam should develop their own states rather than chhatpujas on shivaji park. These illegel migrants have never contributed for development, They have desturbed it.

i am not agree with sagarika. Raj thackarey is not against all north indians. what he is saying is that do not rude the locals. Do not show your political and muscle power to locals. Raj has never blamed gujratis and marwadis or punjabis as these people have not braught their state leaders here in maharashtra as these UP and Biharis do. In Mumbai at every corner there is a poster of one north indian leader. Isn't it a way to show their power? In a new delimitation to elect 40 and more MLAs is in hands of these north indians. In mumbai or in any other corporation the number of north indian is increasing. Dosen't it mean that their percentage is increasing, dosn't it mean that local MARATHI MANOOS is being minority community because of this migration. How can locals tolerate this? and one another thing If any other leader like Narayan Rane, R R Patil or Ajiit pawar raise this issue he could also win the support which Raj is getting. another thing in pune municiple election Pawars said that the Mayor should be Marathi. that is...JAY MAHARASHTRA!

It’s because of people like you mayur that our country is not progressing. If you can’t compete in this democratic country and hide behind reasons like religion, cast and sect like a sissy and except sympathy form the rest of the country cause you are a minority.. bro you are sadly mistaken. People will have to stand up and earn their position in every walk of life. I guess you guys just want it easy uh…Your state would be nothing if it won’t for the rest of the Indians who came and settle there. So stop whining like a kid and be a man. Cheers

Hey, Dont be missunderstood.I am not against migrants in mumbai. I am against their behaviour. If u want to get settled here in mumbai, you may. But you have to be legal. You wont live in slums, on railway stations, footpaths illegally. you cant have illegal business. Do newyork, london, paris, tokiyo permit this kind of migration?

An upper caste Chandrakant Kayastha Prabhu has challanged one of most powerful OBC YADAV of INDIA from performing his religious hindu ceremony IN INDIA. Here is how I predict the future: 1. If LALU YADAV is not allowed to perfom CHHATH PUJA then that day itself INDIA will break into pieces. So called Bhumiputras were right after all. marathistaan and kannadistan will be formed. It will remain to be seen how they will claim assetts of united india in those kaandistaan and marathistaan such as ISRO, HAL, BARC and so on....without donating their blood. 2. If LALU YADAV is able to perform CHHATH PUJA even if under heavy military presence then INDIA as one country will remain united forever. Upper caste CKP Boy raj thackeray should prepare for that day!! It will not be that easy to take life of one of India's most powerful OBC YADAV leader while he performs Chhath Puja.
