Left in India is very powerful for the time being but Leftism at the international map is a marginal force . I still remember my one of the professors, who was a commited Marxist and doyen of Marxist theories ,... Read The Article
As you said somewhere in the article Left has still some people who are honest, dedicated at their work and reliable than most other polical parties. But some how the relevance of it loosing all over the world, India is no exception to it.Even Left parties in West Bengal are closely associating with capitalists for investments. As compromised in getting invetments by inviting capitalists, they have to be flexible enough in matters of national interst like nuclear dealalso.American bashing always won't work.Even America is loosing clout and facing many problems both domestic and international. As one sixth of population live in India we have to raise to the occasion and hold our head high. For that political unity is must.We have to show the world our strength.Dont waste any more time on petty personal issues.Left has to think broadly and accept the relality.Otherwise they will be dissiiminated like their fellow comrades in USSR.

Left is adamant on nuclear issue to the detriment of our national policy and interests. Its high time they build a consensus and support it whole heartedly. India to secure its energy needs had to secure deals in multi-forums as nuclear deal is one of them. When petroleum pirces has sky rocketed how can they remain adamant. For heavens sake left should oblige with union government and play its part in indias national interest........

This article gives a realistic view of the present left scenario in India. Very interesting! Hope the leftists understand this language of 'moving ahead' than just 'marching on'!

Left's ideology in India has degenerated to anti-development now. Their affiliation beyond India's borders cannot be refuted. Did they not play a role in the coming up of the Maoist government in Nepal? It can be considered one of the greatest failures of India's foreign policy. The UPA government had assigned this task to access the Nepal situation to its Left ally. To assume that Prakash Karat failed to read the situation or had no role to play in Nepal would be too naive. I cannot buy your contention that the Left is not being influenced by China in opposing the nuclear deal.

The Left, a club of hypocrits, may be ignored by Manmohan Singh over the N-deal. They've been intimidating and subverting the Govt.and nation's interest They've destroyed everything in W. Bengal by partisan politics and no state is as disturbed today. Murders, assaults, arson, rape are not confined to Nandigram and Singur. Every section of people, save the ruling herrenvolks, is satisfied and no soul safe there. Look at Gorkha agitation for Statehood of Darjeeling. Rajbanshis of Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, North & South Dinajpur, Maldah districts too have launched movement for Kamtapuri State. Maoists are challenging the State Government. All these point to total collapse and failure of the Left Government. They hold masses in contempt though profess by them to perpetuate themselves in power by rigging elections. They deny education for the masses lest they see through the game. They have shown their colour by citing Muslim backlash over N-deal. 23% of W Bengal are Muslims who have 40 MLAs but mere 5 ministers with nameless portfolois. See Sachar Committe report what it says about the highland of culture. In contrast, 16 Minister of a Cabinet of 33 are Brahmins. Brahmin, Kayasth and Baidya, the so-called 'bhadralok' comprising 6-7% population, have grabbed 69% of the ministerial berths. 64 Brahmins, 62, Kayasthas and 6 Baidya are MLAs in an Assembly of 342. They grabbed 56% of unreserved constituencies of W Bengal! No tribal holds Cabinet rank save a solitary minister of State. Backward classes are not counted at all. We hear the Left frothing over the minorities' welfare and interest in print and electronic media. The people have started seeing through their game. Their bluff may be called soon.

Communist ideology is not at all relevent in this developed world. Marxism is now best in theory only. China did realise this & amended themselve with the changes but our Mr. Karat, Mr. Yechury & Mr. Bardhan will never ubderstand to cope with the changing society & still follow the old & unpractical theory.

You have shown conclusively how Indian Left is regressive in its attitude towards modern aspects and the evolving market but still there is no apparent need for the Left to really heed the line you try to promote. Left has engulfed three states and is consistently eying others, it has a staunch cadre base wherever it has power and so the old dogma will be enforced at the gun point if needed. It is redundant to explain anything o them for they only know what they learnt from communist education. It is high time to strike off left from the political equation before they cause further damage and become a nightmare.

Ashutosh.. what i dont understand is Lett's keeness to defend China ,under any cost. Why dont they have anything to say about, chinese intrusion of Sikkim,tawang,Ladakh...Why dont they realize that China is a bigger and imminent threat than USA to India. What business does someone like Nilotpal Basu have to go on record to defend China? How can Dipankar Mukherjee rant like a mad man during the Perol Price Hike?...
I wonder when someone like Karat asks ''Can u fill uranium into the petrol tank of a car and run it?'' Outdated would be a gross understatement.

yes....... the Indian leftists are not understanding the new changes which happens in all over the world, instead they are strill holding their age old dogmas. What Karl Marx has said is true. But, in today's world pace, communists an do nothing to change the direction of world. Because, the world is too far away from their hands. So they should undersatnd the current situations and act accordingly. This is what China did understand and what they are doing right now.
