Compromise or cricket?

So what is it that World Cup 2007 will be remembered for? The highest World Cup total, (India against Bermuda), the early exit of sub-continental giants (India and Pakistan) or the murder of the Pakistani coach Bob Woolmer under suspicious...

freddy faria i don't think indian players will ever be consistent like aussies. Reasons: Too much commercials/endorsements, sub-continent bookies going about fixing matches, physical and mentally unfit due to lack of proper diet (certainly masala foods are not good for sportspersons) - the cricket game has drastically changed over the years since kapil & his boys won the WC. It has because more physically and mentally demanding. Indian cricket players are too much pampered by the media and corporates. Finally - The same players playing in the team for very long - each wanting to achieve their own personally glory. The Blame lies solely on BCCI who is more concentrating on making money and not looking at making improvements. The BCCI has no rules in place that effectively indicate to a player how long he can be in the team. Virender Sehwag has been in the team without scoring runs in almost 55 matches, but he still is kept in the team. If Sehwag was in the aussie team - he would have been axed long ago. Why don't we emulate the good things the aussies do instead of just criticizing their on field behavior??. Look a Mathew Hayden - a couple of months ago, he wasn't sure of getting a place in the one day team. He was promptly relegated to the test-team. But he brilliantly fought his way back into the one day team. If Messrs. Gavaskar mentions that Indian team showed lack of committment - "you could see it in their body language" when they came out to play. Then from Gavaskars statement can we conclude the match has been fixed in advance??.

Due to the above reasons, how can the senior players play in domestic cricket - when a sizable amount of their time is spent on tight international schedule and unlimited commercial endorsements??

I am not against indian cricket players doing endorsement s, but it should be regulated based on the Grading System already put in place by the BCCI. Otherwise the players wont be able to play domestic cricket.

Regards,
Freddy Faria

rohit i will remember it for mr Bob woolmer. he was a great man and it was really unfortunte for this to happen....

as far as india is concerned...it is one of the most hyped cricket playing nations...so that was not shocking for me..the fact says that they win 36% of matches abroad and 55% of matches at home....was india in top league ever?

pakistan always had their ups and down...they will be back...

Saiju Such players like Tendulkar, Ganguly, Sehwag & Dhoni can sell thier country & public passion who knows one day they would ready to sell thier wife for money. Hello great players how much money you got from bookies? No regretion at all? When the right time came they got a good opportunity to retaliate with coach & captain.

hello great players if you have a plan to sell any of u r family members just inform me i would like to put first bid.

Pramod Sinha WC happens once in 4 years, Indian team played the WC cricket and they came early because they want to see good cricket in WC. Interestingly, in between the team india will see their endorsement also. Sone pe suhaga.

We should respect Team India feelings and please allow them to watch good cricket in WC.

Ranita The abject surrender by the Indian team is what has riled Indians. No one showed any guts on the field. Cricketers feel once they have made a 'name' for themselves that its time to enter the modelling game and make that their number one goal.
I wish all these big corporates would not take them any more but only tv and film stars.

Abhineet Bajpai whatever be the reactions of the general public i say that this world cup would be remembered for the fact that it is we who didn't let our cricket team to play naturally. And if such overexpectations are going to be put continuously in the coming era you and i will see many more world cups like this. LET SPORTS BE SPORTY ENOUGH.

Cockarochhi Have different types of pitches and not pitches that encourage a run-riot. Have a Premier Cricket League (non-regional based) besides the Ranji/Duleep trophy. Results will follow. Continue with Greg Chappell if he is willing to take salary based on performance.
