Is Mumbai exclusive to Maharashtrians? This should be a no-brainer, but since Raj Thackeray reignited the debate, it's an issue worth exploring, if only to see what turns up.
The timing first. What pressed the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena... Read The Article
wonderful mr. vekatesh, at least someone has come to know what is the real reason why raj is fighting.. no one wants to understand that mumbai's limits are over. there is no place at all. people are traveling on top of each other. People dont realize that is inconvenience because they seriously dont know or they have not experienced what is called convenience.. thay just finish their day saying "this is mumbai life".. All the mumbaikars are including non maharashtrians are facing this problem everyday. so i feel somewhere we should stop the migrants or what our life is only going to get miserable in recent future. people are thinking different things and Raj wants to say different things. some of the medias spreading things against raj so he will get arrested soon and will have to shut-up and keep quite. i do not think things will improve and lifestyle of the mumbaikars will be better in future. Heavy Migration to Mumbai is the major problem. Migrants are from UP or Bihar or from any other state doesn’t make difference.

Hold on. How can you blame infrastructure issues as solution. e.g. Lets assume Bandra-Worli sea link is complete. By then, 50,000 more UP/Bihar immigrants come to Mumbai, how are you going to tackle ? You will again blame that they created only 4 lanes, they shd have created 8 lanes. This is ridiculous. Also, most of these writers do not listen what Raj said in his conference. It is very specific to people from UP and Bihar. These states are failed states. Rather than developing these states, you are asking to develop Mumbai. Yes, Raj is trying to get his political ambition fulfilled. So what ? People like Abu Azmi shd only be beaten, thats it

A quick question to all readers. Just because one lives in a 5000 square feet home, would s/he allow people with no roof over their heads to come stay and one day try and evict you from your own home? The problem here is Mumbai doesn't even have the place and infrastructure to provide for and sustain the ever growing influx. A free country is fine. But repeated abuse of freedom will always lead to a similar situation that Mumbai is facing at present.

hindi our national language ?
Choosing the language of one state is a blatant case of discrimination based on language. some states have two some states have three languages .. in many multilingual socities discrimination based on language is banned

It is ridiculous that a group of people(MNS) have actualy got away so far by making comments against the migrants from other states. The only segment which seems to be supporting the MNS is the frustrated lot of localites, who have nothing better to do. What raj Thakeray and his motley group ned to think is whether Mumbai is the personal Property of Maharashtrians alone? What about the crores of tax payers coming in from non-maharashtrains, my guess is that this would be larger than the tax contribution of maharshtrians alone. What load on infrastructure is he talking about? Can Mumbai survive without non-maharashtrians? The answer, I would imagine is obvious.

before debating over Mumbai's rightful owners? lets answer this Doesnt India belong to Indians?have we forgotten our constitutional right to move freely within the country? when NRIs treated fairly in other countries(most of the time), why on earth are our polticians turing so racist and regionalistic? The policy of divide and rule hasnt left India Looks like we are still suffering from a colonial hangover.
( Posted: Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 10:16 )
I agree with priya I am an Indian living in Germany (which is not best known for racial harmony), last month a politician tried the same what Mr. thacks did, incite the local against the foreigners...the press was all out against him and in the end he lost the election and wrote obituary of his own career..we need some thing like that..I think we Indian are most racist living on this devil's carbon filled earth...as Russel peters says"Indians are not terrorist, terrorist hates America We hate each other"....
( Posted by Manoj on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 16:41 )
Priay, you unfortunately do not have a deeper insight into indian politics, the reason why raj thackeray is doing this is simple, people like you dont vote, its the low class people who vote for polititicians, if most of the migrants in mumbai are biharis and people from UP, they are giong to vote for their own politicians, and you are going to have corrup politicians like lalu prasad, amar singh, etc...
These politicians have totally destroyed their own states, and would do the same for other states.. Dont generalise the subject by saying human beings, and Indians, there are things deeper that you need to try to understand..
Hopefully that will make sense, otherwise continue to live in ignorance, at least is bliss. yes
( Posted by nayr on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 15:02 )
thank you nayr for the 'deeper insight'. though i have my doubts about it. let me point out corrupt policticians are not endemic to northIndia.also could you plz cite facts to subtiante your claim that 'these politicians have completely ruined their state'.its not that i am oblivious to the fact about the high handedness and power of rhetoric they exert, but how are they differnt from the Thackeray brigade? i am not generalising anything. its just that i see the entire nation as a big family, which should not divided by petty policitians and their whopped ideologies. Its just an opinion, and i think i have a right to it! n what precisely do u mean by'people like you'? dont preach just for the sake of it.

Venkatesh,
What about the Central Government that forces hindi compulsorily on others ???
Isnt that a form of compulsion that is anti-democratic ???
If the central govt can force a language why should the state govt (Maharashtra) in this case be silent ???
( Posted: Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 02:23 )
Vijay, Hindi is our national Language.
( Posted by Vineet Deshmukh on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 10:35 )
Mr Vineet
I am sick of typing this again and again. India doesnot have any national language. Hindi rashtrabasha nahi hai..!! It is just one of the official languages of India.
If you come by your argument, being in democratic country, I would suggest/can say that central government to use Telugu as national language instead of Hindi..
Grow up! Appreciate the diversity.. To be an Indian one need not know Hindi.. We can still speak like how we do now.. make India a great place to live..
Thanks for reading

Vineeth, FYI , There is no concept of National Language , As per Constitution of the India, Hindi is one of the Official Languages of India along with 22 others. Central Govt just uses Hindi apart from English as mode of communication.

Dear Vijay Is centre govt. beating up people, giving them death threats just cos they dont know hindi? Justify the violence , the fear which has gripped the country. The trend is really dangerous. Think about it!!

Why are you ASHAME vijay, if there exists at least 1 language that all INDIANS can speak n understand? Hindi as a matter of fact is most widely spoken in most of the states. So its easy to implement across country instead of asking some one in J&K to learn Tamil or some one in Kanyakumari to learn Bengali. Hindi is spoken almost in all states. Do NOT confuse HINDI as a regional language, it is NOT. I am proud to be an INDIAN whose mother tongue is Bengali and very well understand n speak HINDI. Jai Hind.

Central govt. is forcing English on all citizens. English is a foreign language. English is not one of the Indian languages as enumerated in the Constitution. Worst, English is the language of the former colonial overlord. It is shameful, disgraceful.

Vijay, I think there is one way you can avoid Hindi - that's by choosing state board syllabus when in school : ) warm regards, Venkatesh

Svaidya Ji
Mumbai (like any other city) has been developed by people from all states of India. Today it is doing well, again with the help of all Indians. No place in India can be claimed exclusively by any community. We are all Indians and must remain devoted to one India (irrespective of caste, creed, breed, sex, religion, region etc.)
