Within minutes of Mrs Pratibha Patil being "chosen" as the UPA's candidate for president, a chain sms was floated: "After 300 years, the Marathas are finally set to conquer Delhi", a reminder that defeat in the third battle of Panipat... Read The Article
THe article is bold,to the point and a very nice piece.Mr.Rajdeep has done a very good job. Congratulating him to reveal the quality for which Mrs.pratibha is selected as the presidential canditate. Now i really wish that the election to the highest constitutional position should be done by the citizens directly.Imagine what will be the scenario then?

This piece of article showed me why I remain a diehard fan of Rajdeep Sardesai till this day. Deep sensitivism to the issues at hand, liberal minded yet clear in presenting his views, Mr. Rajdeep Sardesai, is truly a giant among the media persons of today. The fact as pointed out by Rajdeep is that there are miles to go before we sleep. Yet we cannot deny that we are awakening from our deep-rooted slumber.

Rajdeep, It's easy to question Shiv Sena for their contribution to Maharashtra. Now days it became a fashion. But what about you? You are also a Maharashtrian, country's most talented journalist , what is your contribution to the state ? Why media failed to highlight farmers issues at state and central level?Have you ever tried speaking to the dying farmers of Vidarbha ? Instead of seating in air conditioned studio and writing this article why don't you go on field and have a direct communication with the people? So Mr Sardesai, not only the politicians needs an “introspection” but also so called elite journalist like you need it. You can’t escape.
I know you can not answer any of these question. But please at least post my comments

Rajdeep, Jai Maharashtra Indeed a good article. Central politics has always revolved around Neharu Gandhi family or the politicians from Hindi heartland. Despite of having large contribution in India's freedom fight and post independent visionary leaders like Yashwantrao Chavan, Maharashtra was always sidelined to occupy the highest post. SIMILAR treatments were given to West Bengal. Even south of India is NOT an exception. Post independent, identity crises developed across India , therefore regional leaders started representing a particular region rather than country as a whole. Regional identities always prevented them coming together , and this exactly was (and is) benefited to congress and BIMARU state's leaders.

Dear Rajdeep ji, Thank you for writing such an thought provoking article. It is indeed exposes how we are pushing our society a step backward on the name of false Marathi pride. It is indeed one of the finest article I read read.
It is shocking how we can forget a person like Dr. Kalam in the name of false pride and support someone like Mrs. Patil just because she happens to be a Maharashtra.
One should remember that office of president is bigger than the occupant and hence, onle the best and the most suitable person with a stature like that of Dr. kalam should occupy the highest office in the country. Be him or her who so ever be, where ever form.

Rajdeep, in your responsive sensitivity in article you seem to have missed the major fault lines of maharastrians in the national politics, from the beginning of free India, in democratic life, Nehru dynasty has used the maharastrian more than any body else in the dirty works department to do the dity job.Be it dismissal of democratically elected governance of left, in kerala in 50's, SK Patil was used to create the law and order problems to use art.356, to dismiss the CPI governance of Nampoothripad, by Nehru, using funds loaned by America, and CIA, now documents being de-classified reveal the role more clearly than ever of this dirty work. Later AR ANtulay made crores for Indira in sale in cement permits, biggest scandal of restricted commodity then. Sharad Pawar, power hungry scoundrel that he is, did not hesitate to part company with Sonia, now doing the dirty jobs for his safety with Prathibha, both involved in loot of sugar farmers in their co-op venture. ? Sushil Kumar shinde, a police two star inspector, came in touch with Indira for his dirty jobs during emergency, and later rewarded for the jobs, even as governor of AP, to pardon the murderer of Congress, convicted one at that. ? With awareness of citizens on the rise with information tech and channels in competetion, we see maharastrians currying favours even in media.Should I name the obivious sycophants of media ?

Very well written article. Congress since Neharu ‘s time, always played a dirty politics. Whoever opposed Neharu-Gandhi policies, were sidelined. Remember ,how Chintaman rao Deshmukh had lost the presidential election after throwing his resignation at Naharu’s face when he was a home minister.
If Sonia Gandhi is so much interested in Maharashtrian woman president, she would have nominated the iconic person like Medha Patkar. But considering the fact that in coming years president is going to play a vital role when no single party wins a majority, congress need “Rubber stamp”.
Jai Maharashtra !!

Dear sir , it seems winds have changed directions amazingly north & south for the Marathi people which was once centered .The Marathi's , who ruled in history ,due to destiny were forced to accept the superiority of other's ,for which they were not liable. Any how in different roles they have once again starting to prove their worth , by Rajni ( Gaekwad ) in south fully assimilated as a true Tamilian & Asia's superstar and Patil in the north . Indeed it is a , proud moment for any Marathi speaking man through out the world . It is life and things happen Mr. sardesai but that should not be the criteria for deciding things , lets live in present by remembering the good golden history of the Marathi people which has always inspired the great souls of the state to live and do their duty towards the subject of the state. Be optimestic and hopeful for the good times .
