Jai Maharashtra

Within minutes of Mrs Pratibha Patil being "chosen" as the UPA's candidate for president, a chain sms was floated: "After 300 years, the Marathas are finally set to conquer Delhi", a reminder that defeat in the third battle of Panipat...

more Kirti Pandey Rajdeep, you are being narrow minded. Being tolerant or just does not mean u forget ur home state, disown and ridicule it. When the food-starved Marathas fought with bare backs Northern winter to throw out invaders in the battle of Panipat, how will u know the pain of the thousands about 60-70k) killed , totured and abducted by the butchering invaders as the rest of India watched? Women were taken away and their future generations still live in Afghanistan as Bugti Marathas. Marathas and Peshwas weakened Mughals who were not fair anyway and a Marathi woman Rani laxmibai and Tantya Tope dioed defending the British.
Tilak, a diabetic and Professor from Fergusson college, old and frail took Kala Pani and Sawarkar too lived and died for India to be ridiculed by a small Mani Shankar Aiyyar.
Why is Maratha bashing a good sport? Poor guys are so simple, not material worshipping, money chasing, foeticididal like you know who.
Please forgive poor Maharashtra for giving the country a first woman Prez. It also happens to be the first state to educate women (Ranade), give a lift to Dalits (Shahu Maharaj to Ambedkar) and widow remarriage and education (Phule).

Sadanand Hello Sir, I came acroos your article at the time of Presidential vote couting day. As an Maharastrian I am proud that the women from the Maharashtra origin is becoming the first person of India and also proud that she is the first women to be the Prsident of India. Political parties in the state has shown their great support to Marathi Person. Sir you must now concentrate on Maharashtra through your network for the better prospects of youth in Maharashtra to come forward and help India to rise and build a powerful country.

I also gone through the comments of Mr. Namdeo and I totally agree him. For each person his state comes first but what about our Indian language Hindi which they (south India - Chennai, Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Kerala) hesitate to speak as of they don't know the language. Even for the tourist from India face lots of problem because of there attitude.

Only Maharashtra (Mumbai) is the most eligible and welcoming state to all parts of India. We in Maharastra never forgot the Hindi language and helps to each and every person who comes to Mumbai. You must do something for the same issue.

Waiting for your positive reply.

more Namdeo Dear Rajdip,
Jai Maharashtra,
Issues you mentioned in your article could be very well applied to all states particularly south indian states. How could you forget that few months before there was a survey conducted by your own channel asking Indians "Which is their FIRST identity, Indian or Regional?' Majority from Kerla and TN claimed state/language identity as a FIRST. That time you did not have a courage to write a similar blog. Is it because you are NOT matured enough to the wrath from them? or Afraid of dropping the TRP of your channel as it largely depend upon south Indians?

Maharashtrians have been always identified as a tolerant to other idenities, cultures , languages etc. And YES same time we take a BIG PRIDE in our own identity. History has proved it.

Rajdeep, I ask you simple question. Can you see similar tolerance from south indians? Tamilians particularly ? Can you write a blog judging them on same parameters ?
Can you criticize them ?Do you have the guts ? I think your will not. You can see the resentment from tamilians when one of your co worker criticize "Sivaji -The Boss".

State or languistic identity are going to be the FIRST for many of us INDIANS.This is bound to happen in multi-cultured India. We'll be INDIAN for international issue.
WE HAVE MULTIPLE IDENTITIES, WE HAVE TO BALANCE THEM.

Ritesh T Rajdeep,
I accidently came across this blog of yours and within no time read all the comments. I will surely not put my views as to who is eligible for president and who is not but it is amply clear after reading all the comments by readers that even after 60 years of independence, its still very easy to divide indians. It will be a crime to dream of India being a superpower when we can't even respect our own family members (read as fellow indians). It's truly disheartening!

Amit Rajdeep you forgot to mention the Mumbai Mafia. The biggest dons have operated from the megacity. Haji Mastaans, Dawoods and the rest...in fact it was once reported how the political fortunes of Independent India in past 60 years is linked to the rise and fall of Dons of Mumbai. Also they manage to benumb the nation via Bollywood . Any guess where the intellect of Maharashtra vanished?

Nayantara While this makes good reading, I wonder why we a poor country have to waste resources in the manner of time, man power and money ( not to mention media space) on such a non event. Why do we even need a president in this country? All a president is required to do is take the salute on Republic and Independance Day....every other move is dictated by the ruling party.

The President as well as the polls are reduced to this....mindless comments from jobless individuals in the middle of the night....then again atleast they are good for something!!
