I write this at my own risk. I know I invite the ire of Indian IT professionals by talking this way about their patron saint.
Kannadiga software pros, their parents, and other Infosys worshippers will call me an... Read The Article
I am sure you would have read todays news where Narayan Murthy gave a clarification about being misquoted.
I personaly dont believe that Narayan Murthy has an attitude so as to play down ones own national anthem.
Rest of the article seems to be Murthy bashing without facts.

NRN is very practical and he knows exactly what to do if given powers. Do anybody here genuenly think that anybody can succeed in future without english. His support for English is based on what Indians need to succeed and not what some fanatics want us to do. Just Imagine all SC/ST speak good english. I think they will immedietly become developed In the next 30-40 years, english will become the language of this country. and everybody likes that. NRN has guts to say that and he is right.
If we look at the history of presidents in India, None of them were real achievers.Ofcource they are successful intheir careers APJAK became president because of reasons known to everybody. KRN became president for similar reasons. Jailsingh, SDSHARMA,FAA,VVG.....and the list goes on.
Having said that NRN should start a political party (liberal) and start winning elections. One step at a time. Capture karnataka, maharashtra..... west bangal and kerala ) He got money, support of media, people from cities and liberals. Western world will support and global business will support.
He should aim for becoming a PM and not a president which i think is a high paying lousy job.

You are viewing the whole national anthem episode in the wrong light. The rendition of national anthem in the presence of foreigners would have embarrassed them indeed. Picture yourself in say, the US of A, with natives singing their national anthem with a hand on their hearts, would not you feel out of place?Atleast I would. Plus , I would not know how not to offend others or their anthem in any way . Some of the foreigners in Infosys, Mysore might not have known that we stand in the attention position while singing the national anthem. Had any of them failed to give our national anthem the due respect, it would have fueled a debate of another sort and Mr. Murthy would certainly not have liked any disrespect of the "Jana Gana Mana".Only a person of flawless character and limitless strength of mind could have reached where he is today form his modest background. Only a person who holds his country in the highest esteem can make foreigners want to join Infosys in the first place.

Hey Aditi you have hit the nail on its head. I completely agree with NRN's views. He isnt saying that we must stop speaking our regional languages but saying that we must develop our english speaking skills TOO. As always our dear author has made a mountain out of a mole-hill! Look at what NRN can offer to the country with this fore-sight and dedication!

Barring businessmen from politics? Are they not better than the current Goondas, jobless, currupt idiots ruling us? And Infosys is no ordinary company, it has been built with honesty and integrity and with a vision to share wealth! It just shows the ignorance of the writer to facts. Infact, I feel, businessmen can be good politicians, what with their single-minded dedication to a cause, discipline and hard work!

It is very unfortunate that a person like Mr.N.R.Narayan Murthy (NRN) does not have the sentiments for reciting National anthem. Whether there are 100/1000 foreigners it does not matter, We should always take pride in reciting the National Anthem when ever we get an oppurtunity. This shows his arrogance this man has acquired over the years along with money. I have lost respect to NRN whom I thought is an idol for all Kannadigas like me.

You are right about the fact that NRN's issue with the National Anthem, but it doesnt mean he is fit to be a president. Let me ask you a question, who are these people Mulayam, Lalu, Paswan, Karunanidhi, Deve Gowda, and Bal Thackeray?? And you call them leaders. This is a shame, Not NRN being a president. They are not fit to lead.Leaving all these you are trying to blame NRN ?
By the way , what is wrong in opposing quota and saying merit alone should be the criterion for education and jobs ??

Infact I'm also a great fan of N R NarayanaMurthy.I dont think he would make a good choice for presidentship.President should be some one who has an idea about the government functioning and of course constitution. He should have a great vision for the future of every Indian( note:every Indian is not a software engineer).Making Mr.Murthy president would be something like making Manmohan singh primeminister.Mr.Singh outperformed as a scientist and finance minister but on the other hand he is the weakest prime minister India ever had.Similar way Mr.Murthy is good at corporate leadership and vision but not public leadership and vision
