I write this at my own risk. I know I invite the ire of Indian IT professionals by talking this way about their patron saint.
Kannadiga software pros, their parents, and other Infosys worshippers will call me an... Read The Article
Thanks for drawing attention to the "inside story". I think even Murthy would appreciate your whistle-blowing. It is a different matter that I do not agree to your other one-sided ranting against Murthy (days of balanced point-of-view are really over?!?). Having said that, I must appreciate your reporting the issue w.r.t. National Anthem.
TOI already reported an apology with an "official" statement from Infy on the matter.

The article is well written and makes people to think as to what it means to be a 'President' of the largest functioning democracy in the world India.
It is not the question as to what people think of Mr. Murthy as a prospective candidate of "Presidency". It is for Mr. Murthy himself to introspect if he sees himself suited for such a prestigeous, and most respected institution in the Indian democracy.
Why only Mr. Murthy for that matter? Why not Mr. Ratan Tata, who himself and also his family has done many more good and great things for the country than what Mr. Murthy can think of or dream about?
I think people should take the post of 'President' of India more seriously than actively campaigning for some corporate leader to occupy such post.
"President" of India is the patriarch (apologies to feminists) of the billions of people and should represent the true spirit of Indian democracy, the Constitution and the diverse nature of the demography. Mr. Murthy, with due respect for the person he is, does not have a vision for our country, which is the least that you could ask for a Presidential hopeful. Mr. Murthy's vision is limited to improving the IT Industry, most of the time and incidentally benefitting the country. What about more than 90% of the population who are not in the IT Industry?
If his remarks on signing the National Anthem is anything to go by, then we would have a President who could one day sing the National Anthem in English or better sing the songs that the foreign guests could understand!!
The spirit of Indian democracy should be understood, not by setting up plush corporate offices to suit self-needs, but in formulating a vision for the helpless, harrassed and majority population of the country.
I sincerely hope that people of this country do not equate the post of Presidency with a post of a Chairman of a Company or captaincy in a cricket team.

I partially agree with you, but look, as far as language capabilites are concerned, mr NRN is correct. English is must.To compete globally you need to know it... just imagine how many would have read your article if people didn't knew english .You cant teach your >30 vernacular languages to others to convey your ideas.... Mr NRN has technical skills, and those are the things which bring comfort to life......you cant judge his capabilites by hilighting this blunder.... you people have no work to do, thats why all these debates take place, i agree even i am adding a tag to this nonsense( "nothing to do with development" activities ). And as far as the analogy with all those politicians is concerned, you were completely "illogical"...you know how is Indian politics and how are the politicians...!!!! don't you...? please do not further debate on such waste issues...instead use your web space for some developmental deeds and then feel yourself to be proud of being a "KANNADIGA or an INDIAN"..hope you will respect my views......have a good day...

Mr.NR Murthys view about the national anthem is depressing because when we go to a new place learning about the culture of the place is important but he dosent deserve to be condemned by our morally corrupt politicians. Its his view and he is entitled to it.He is only human,no need to over criticize him.We need to be grateful to him for the employament oppurtunities he is generating in the country.

If I ask myself hat infosys contributed to karnataka, then I see only TOILETS. (part of Nirmal bangalore initiation). These guys are business men; They do not mind selling india one day to other countries. Shame on NRN. Kumar

Please do not bring in Caste politics when it comes down to the selction of The President of India. Well i am not big fan of Narayan Murthy but please dont mix his reservation issues in to his nomination.
Reservation is a Political play ground where politicians feed these ideas to the Junta and they feed on them and wag their tails behind these politicians.
When it comes to the President go beyond caste and look for the personality.

One should not forget the contribution NRN has made to India & Indian Economy.. Its because of IT revolution started by Infosys that India is now on Global Map.. Pity that people just go by small issues & forget all the good deeds done by a Person to the Nation directly or Indirectly. As Mr.D P Satish rightly says Politicians will not support NRN, its true for the fact that they will not get any support from him in any regard.. Shame on people still speaking about reservations in this 21st century!!!! Problem with India is it tries to take one step ahead but Indians pull it back by 4 steps!!!!
When compared to dirty politicians who are thirsty for money & nothing else, NRN stands far from these... Recent Nandigram episode is an example for this, innocent people were killed for politicians dream of making money....
Full support to NRN as President of India....

Too many learned people behaving (on this forum) like not-so-learned is really alarming issue here. Let us not loose focus and get into issues like what NRN eats for breakfast!!, etc.
Firstly, NRN tried to balance between all stakeholders. He is human first and then Indian, Kannadiga, IT Czar etc. Call of the day is humanism than hinduism, Christienism etc. That is what he portraid precisely.
Secondly, NRN never said he is intrested in prez.post. However, at this crucial juncture of India, what we really need is honesty, humbleness, hard-working, transferent and other similar characteristics than anything else. I dont think we need bloated ego that will make country (or state) go for war on other nation (/state) just because there is minor issue (for e.g. violation of boundry by sailor). SO, NRN still fits the bill more than anyone in current political class

"NRN has always been opposing quota and saying merit alone should be the criterion for education and jobs. It shows his ignorance of India's caste struggle and its background"
The article brings exactly what people should know. The meritship decides future of person in india irrespective the "class of life", family situtations, wealth etc. If NRN is not aware of such things in life, I pity on him for his poor social knowledge. He my be right becas he wants merit people for his business. People should remember now Reliance Ambani how much Ambani achived with his social knowledge and his education.
I thank satish for bringing this kind of knowledge to public.

Hmmm, the article is Intresting but is not impressive. I agree with the author that Narayan Murty may be a good leader for his company but he may not be that bright for the position of President. He is a good leader in IT industry because he made processes when there were none. He became successful in his IT industry because he started from scratch everything. He couldn't bear the Karnataka Politics itself, how do you expect him to run the position of President. I wouldn't like that all the laws of India be made again just because a President can't find the current laws suitable. He is a one man army and he can't work for 1 billion people. I don't think he would ever be a good president. Lets see what happens.....
