Narayana Murthy as Prez would be a shame

I write this at my own risk. I know I invite the ire of Indian IT professionals by talking this way about their patron saint. Kannadiga software pros, their parents, and other Infosys worshippers will call me an...

Shivaprasad shetty I agree with Satish 's veiw that NRN is not fit to be the President . He is a big Sycophant . Every Bangalorean knows how close he was to SM Krishna and his son-in-law Siddarth .He is big landgrabber . Infosys owns more than 1000 acres in Bangalore , about 500 acres in Mysore and about 360 acres in Mangalore . All these procured from the farmers at a pittance by the karnataka Govt and handed over to Infosys . DeveGowda opposed him because he was close to Krishna . When KumaraSwamy became the CM , NRN started singing praises of Kumaranna and he alloted another 400 acres of farmers land to Infosys . Let Murthy and Infosys give detailed account of the farmers land obtained by them allover the country and their usage .

Purushotham What proof do you have that NRN was ashamed of our National anthem being sung by his staff. He might have thought it was cool to have an instrumental National anthem.

Every one in the country knows Narayana Murthy's views on reservation. He has always been opposing quota and saying merit alone should be the criterion for education and jobs. It shows his ignorance of India's caste struggle and its background.
This statement is highly debatable. Half the nation is for and half the nation is against.
Most of the rationalist feel it should not be caste based reservation but economic based reservation. Tell me how many poor backward and forward class people today are struggling for a loaf of bread.

He now forgets that government-funded schools, "cowsheds", as he calls them, have made him what he is today.
Again this is your cooked up story with no proof and even if he called them cowsheds in my opinion he was right.

And do you think our politicians will vote him to Rashtrapati Bhawan?

Our Politicians ??? Please they never belong to anybody

He believes people without a knowledge of English have no future in India. Will leaders like Mulayam, Lalu, Paswan, Karunanidhi, Deve Gowda, and Bal Thackeray ever support him in their wildest dreams?
Correct this sir he says people without knowledge of English have no future in IT industry in India and not in India.

This is a cheap gimmick by the author to gain some mileage

Harsh Well I have never read a more prejudiced article in my life. This article is nothing more than an attempt to mar the reputation of one of the most brilliant individuals alive today. His merit based approach is what has enabled Infosys to grow as fast as it is. And if we need India to grow at comparable pace, the system of meritocracy needs to be instilled into all Indians. Anyone supporting this point of view really needs to go back and do their homework.
I agree that NRN would be opposed by majority of the politicians, because we will bring something that they want to run away from - Dedication, devotion and Integrity into a political system that's going down the drains. Vote banks are the only things dictating the agenda of every political party. May be its about time we changed that.

Arijit Chatterjee Satish,

CONGRATULATIONS to you on writing about this issue. It is indeed sad that you have to respond to this strange social contagion (about NRN's candidature) which was quickly grabbed by CNN-IBN's own journalists (probably English-worshiping was the connection). It will indeed be a stupid thing to make NRN the president of our country. He should stick to the knitting - that is making profits for Infosys and its shareholders.

His ideas about education are plain stupid (he has heard about the CCS 'think tank' and often talks about vouchers) - education is also a commodity to him. His paradigm is a distant one - he looks up to the US. His continuous blabber about English is plain irritating.

Interestingly, Hon'ble President Kalam's paradigm is ground-up. He talks about grassroots innovation and entrepreneurship. He talks about empowering the people. That's what is needed. But I admire Kalam's positive response. He is truly a great man.

I sincerely hope NRN maintains his stint at Infosys and does not represent our country in the comity of nations. That representation will be a distorted one, with no understanding of our rich history, traditions, philosophy, and diversity.

Rajivi Indeed, I was shocked on reading the statement of Mr. Murthy, about the foreigners and the National Anthem. I never expected such a statement from him. It is the duty of the one, to respect the national anthem and the flag of the country, where one is staying. Mr. Murthy has his eyes only on Dollars not on the self respect or the respect of his country.

also they cheat the people(like this column writer)
by singing national anthem in public.
what you are saying may be true but you cannot
underemphaze the contribution of NRN .
further columnists like this one want to grab attention

Sanjay Well Said Satish, I never can support him for a public post. He doesn't care for the common man. He has reached the heights and he wants every one to think like him.

He doesn't like Kannada though he (not only him) may be right to for schools and education english should be there.

He (and many IT Majors) starting offices in all possible corners of world where even English is foreign. If he cared for India, he should have developed some places other Bangalore and Mysore in Karnataka. Like Hubli Dharwad, Belgaum and Gulbarga in Karnataka.

Instead he chose to tap talent in China, Brazil etc and bring them to Mysore to teach English first!

Why can't he prepare so much of talent pool which is not hired because of proper guidance and/or finishing touch of their education.

I can't like some one who can't love his mother tounge and backward areas where his smalll help & guidance may be critical in bringing the change.

I am almost accusing this but he can't love other casts other Brahmins. As most of his charity (Sudha Murthy & Foundation)particpated in Brahmins & related organizations ONLY. If I am worng pls prove me wrong but I have MANY instances prove I am saying for fact.

Tata I agree with Satish's final view that NRN should not be the President of India. Being a corporate success and being the President of a country of 1 Billion are two different ball games. I also see an unncessary focus on NRN by the media. His achievements are no doubt noteworthy - but so are the achievements of other Indian corporates.

nikhil His business survives on the lower cost indian engineers churned out by government funded colleges. His sole focus is on growing infosys be it the mysore campus or an even more audacious 500 acre to be built in bangalore.
