I write this at my own risk. I know I invite the ire of Indian IT professionals by talking this way about their patron saint.

Hi Satish
Indian Presidents from Rajendra Prasad, S. Radhakrishnan, Zakir Hussain, K.R Narayanan and Abdul Kalam have had a far-reaching impact on the Indians of yesteryears and today. Their integrity and dedication to the nation and the community and their achievement in their own respect have made them the image of India. They have represented India and India has represented them. The man who took Indian Philosophy to the west spoke it Egnlish and not in Tamil. K R Narayanan was a much respected journalist, who wrote well in English and not in Malayalam. All these great people have steered India to a destination where English has been used prolifically. But Narayana Murthy has the guts to say it. His dreams are entirely different from Mulayam Singh. What kind of India does Mulayam Singh has for the people of India? But Narayana Murthy as President would be able to influence the Cabinet with his visions and provide continuity to APJ. He can steer a forward the young for whom he has become a role model like APJ. The youth of India is looking towards role models for their future and the best choice for today is Narayana Murthy. NR is open about meritocracy but he is not anti-scheduled castes. He is anti quota systems that benefit Karunanithi and Deve Gowde at the end. Let us look around. Do you want someone at the Rashrtrapathi Bhavan to kowtow to politicians or do you want someone whom the young Indians will look up to and where foreigners would reckon at the ingenuity of Indian presidents as its own pinnacle and of its image?

There are two seperate issues here. 1. Whether Mr. Narayanamurthy (NRN)will make a good president or not. 2. NRN's insult to our national anthem and hence to our nation itself.
Issue No.1: NRN has not openly announced his candidature to contest for the post of President of India after Kalam's term is over. No political party has come forward to endorse his candidature. In the light of above, I wonder why the character assasination of NRN is done by the writers including Mr. Satish who wrote the article. I don't think NRN has told anybody orally about his interst to become the next President of India. Does anybody knows what does the President actually does other doing ceremonial duties. NRN will go crazy doing this crap. Indian constitution should be amended to scrap this post itself. It is similar to that of Queen of England who is not taken seriously by anybody. So my request to writers is not waste their time in writing their personal feelings about NRN, who does not give a hoot about it. I am sure he will think 100 times if any party proposes his name before saying no or never.
Issue no.2: NRN has surely erred by saying that the foreign dignatories will be embarrased if our national anthem was sung. NRN is dead wrong on this. In Toronto, Canada where I live I have witnessed canadian dignatories when invited to Indian functions show the same respect by standing when Indian national anthem is sung ,while Indians reciprocate by standing while Canadian national anthem is sung.I have never ever scene anything to the contrary. NRN has apolozised for his indiscretion and hence the matter should be treated as closed. To err is human, and to forgive is devine. Contrary to this some politicians whose corrupt behaviour is well known are calling for NRN's arrest. These fellows are plainly jeolous of NRN's achievement and want to humiliate him. NRN has not insulted the national anthem since the anthem was played thru' the recorded music. Nagaraja Rao

The gist of being a President in india. Whats the difference if it is Narayana Murthy or some narayana bhai rathwa. On the national anthem disrespect associated with him, the author forgets one thing, the national anthem in the first place was written as a honour to the existing viceroy of india at the time of independence, and it is no mandate for anybody to respect or disrespect it. As far as politics go, whether u respect/disrepect a song doesn't make less or more of an Indian. If so ask all of the 550 + parliamentarians if they know the anthem it self.

The national anthem was written for the visiting viceroy is a tottaly misinterpreted argument .Ravindranath Tagore, person who gave away his "Sir" tag back to the Britishers, was himself hurt and disagtreed with it.

yes people have their own view points about mr.murthy but i feel he should be given a chance because he has a vision if entertaining foreigners is wrong then today indias economy would be in shambles and we would be happy serving some politicians sons as slaves dalits???? who r they !!!! if they could not improve in 50 years then i dont think they will improve any time atleast for the next century. if making mountain out of mole hill is your hobby then go ahead and curse him cause he spoke his mind in public not like the others who go to pakistan and regret or fill swiss bank with money

NRN is a demigod of that part of india which lives in the world of internet, laptop, cell phones and ipods. He is an icon for all those aspiring IT and Management professionals. He is good at heart and bears a transparent personality. But do all these qualify him for the top post of the Nation? The devotees of this demigod had seen one side of this corporate czar. This article has thoroughly scanneed NRN and in right perspective, definitely. Now it's time to think what it takes to become the President of this country.
Thanks to Mr. Sathish for stimulating this thought process.

Mr.Narayana Murthy's view about National Antham and refference to his primary school"cow shead " view about reservation and lack of respect for Indian Languages ( over English) ,"blind worship of white skin" shows clearly his attitude towards Indian Society and the way he look at his roots. He is absolutly not fit even to be considered for the post of President of India. Narayana Murthy is a great person for IT world but his attitude make him unfit for holding the post of "Indian President "Indian President should be an Indian who understand India and Indian People not a businessman who can only think about earning money beyond anything else.He is fit to be a corporate head not a nations head. It is fact that majority of Indians even educated citizens do not understand the importance of Natioal Flag and National Anthem mostly because of their ignorance or they have not been properly educated about national pride. But when people like Mr. Narayana Murthy fall to that level it becomes a real concern. We have to make this a subject of national debate. It should be matter of pride and prestige for any citizen to know his National Anthem and sing it loudly and stand errect in attention when it is sung any where and in presence of any foriginer how big they are . We should teach it to the students at all schools and educational Institutions. Let us make it a practice to respect Our Nation its National Flag and National Anthem. Let us learn to respect the Nation beyond anyting.

NRN is an excellent businessman and an asset to our nation. He should continue to do what he is best at; which is business and not Presidency.
