Narayana Murthy as Prez would be a shame

I write this at my own risk. I know I invite the ire of Indian IT professionals by talking this way about their patron saint. Kannadiga software pros, their parents, and other Infosys worshippers will call me an...

Balaji.V i would rather support or raise voice towards NRN to become president. He might be business minded person but still i have hope tat he will be the right person for that seat because he cannot be a politician and corrupt our mother country like what others are doing today.

rasa To a certain extent i agree with your views particulaly with respect to national anthem. At the same time, you have taken pot shots on his views regarding reservation. One thing you need to understand is history is history. Muslim invaders has maimed lot of hindus and can a hindu say that he was discriminated and can he demand reservation... For millions of years woman are discrimated... can women say that for upliftment they need 80% reservation... you have to change with times...If people begin to look at the past one way or the other everyone is discriminated and eligible for reservation ... one more thing you need to understand is that it is not the forward community (the so called upper castes) which are discriminating... Please come and see the villages in Tamilnadu...It is the backward classes like Thevars and Vanniyars who are discriminating against SC/ST... Effectively we are promoting people who are discriminating... Merit should be the only criteria in admissions and jobs... What will happen if America reserves 100% of IT jobs to itself. indian villages does not have got good primary schools how will the rural poor gets upliftment... These are all political gimmicks.... he is also correct in saying that english knowledge should be there... Please be aware that China is recruiting people from India to teach their citizens english... Tamilnadu is an excellent example... it has got a strong anti-hindhi mentality that a Tamilian who goes out of Tamilnadu finds it difficult to survive in other state because of lack of hindhi... English and Hindhi should be taught to everyone in India... English is needed since a lot of jobs depend on that... The Government run schools of yesteryears are as good as private schools today... But the standard of government run schools have fallen to a pathetic level... Please go and sit on a corporation school you will feel the reality....So there is nothing wrong in naryana murthy comparing it with a cowshed.

Nandakumar Great … a pragmatic view. We need to stop hero worshipping blindly and should not be carried away by the charisma created by the media. Even in formula-1 races, when the nation anthem of the winning car maker and the winner is played, nobody is embarrassed. The people of those countries sing it proudly and the others stand there with admiration to them.
Wish everyone takes the pride in singing ‘Rashtra geethe’, disregard to the place and occasion.

more Sanjiv This is the bane of our country. Rapists, murderers, corrupt, criminals can be our legislators, members of Parliament, Ministers (how many examples do you want) but an educated buinessman who has immensely contributed to the country's economy cannot be a President. We should be proud of Lalus and Mulayams and Shibu Sorens but not of Mr. Murthy. How many of these politicians would even know about our culture and heritage and all that, that you claim Mr. Murthy is ignorant about. There was this (in)famous photo of Lalu and Rabri sitting through the entire rendition of the National Anthem. And if my generation and olders recollect, our honorable ex-President Gyani Zail Singh claimed that he was only a servant of Madam (Indira Gandhi) and would even sweep the floor at her instruction. We dont feel ashamed to make that kind of a man our President, but we have problems with Mr. Murthy. Let us accept, no one is perfect in this world but when we choose a President we should be proud of that person and their achievements for the country. We are proud of Dr. Kalam and we will certainly be proud of Mr. Murthy. At least I would be and I do not belong to Karnataka.

Bharatisuta Congradulations Satish,
Very nice article and well thought. I am a Mysorean, Kannadiga. I do admit NRN is not a suitable candidate for the President, for that matter even Dr. Kalam. He is not able to do anything on the key issues like Afzal Guru and office of profit.
NRN is a pure business who sees only AMERICA and Bright Side of INDIA. Also i heard many stories about his simplicity and travel in Economy class! but i myself saw him sitting in the BUSINESS CLASS of LUFTHANSA sipping the Drinks.
As for the culture, lets not forget he was a wannabe communist. So don't expect much of culture and religion from him. He doesn't care about language, culture etc., for him keeping the FOREIGNERS happy is the motto to keep his business grow.

I can go on and fill the whole length of this Site.
Bottom line is "I AGREE WITH YOU SATISH AND I DON'T WANT TO SEE HIM AS PRESIDENT EITHER"

Regards
Bharatisuta.

RameshKumar This article is real good. Me being a Banglorean(Kannadiga) agree with it. NarayanaMurthy is a Shrewd businessman, who is not worth for his so called fame. He hasnt done any thing for karnataka nor for the people. He has only grabbed all the prime lands in bangalore (from poor farmers) with help of some corrupt politicians. Such people should never be encouraged for Presidential post.

amaran well said...when a person like APJ Abdul Kalam was least estimated for his academic excellence at prestigious IISC, but the man stole the hearts of million by being the president. having a vision the future of india lies in the hands of children, youth and the common man..i think Mr.Narayana Murthy least deserves to be a president who believes only corporate and elite can make a better india..being born just to poor father..hope atleast he sees the path he had travelled to wht he is today..

Pradyumna G.H Wonderful article. After reading the blog all I can say is, 'Fantastic, Fantatsic, Fantastic' A fellow Kannadiga, I fully endorse the blogger's view. Indeed to call Mr Narayana Murthy a Kannadiga, would be an affront on all Kannadigas since by his oft-repeated tirade against Kannada medium schools, Mr Murthy (often assisted by his henchman Mr. Mohan Das Pai), has shown that he is only a Macaulay reincarnate. If the national anthem incident is true then Mr Murtht forfeits some goodwill he had accumalated over the years. Let us stop this non-senscila debate of Murthy for President before it consumes unwanted time and space.
