Narayana Murthy as Prez would be a shame

I write this at my own risk. I know I invite the ire of Indian IT professionals by talking this way about their patron saint. Kannadiga software pros, their parents, and other Infosys worshippers will call me an...

Rajesh R I admire and adore NRN for his success, but I dislike him for his attitude about Indians, it was really disgusting to read about his attitude towards singing our national anthem, I wonder how can such a person be entrusted with the highest office...

Madhu I accept this as a mistake from his side. Do you think all the other politicians who contest for the next president ship will be from sathyharishchandras family. President is like puppet in the hands of politicians, and I would suggest Mr. Narayan Murthy not to contest, as we do not want him to be one more puppet.

swaps Very well put. Though i admire the rags-to-riches NRN story, seeing him as a president is a little difficult to swallow.

Power of youth Hi Satish,
I am impressed by your articles and i read most of them.

May be NRN is not a good cadidature for Prez..however one of the reason you have commented has to be thought off.

You had commented on the NRN's unawareness of the Caste system in india, but most of us compliment him for his view on reservation.

By your comments i believe you want the India to be in its 50's, incompetent, lazy and non productive.

Hope you have more time thinking on reservations and future of India.

Guess it was a healthy comment.

Thanks'

Ajith Gopi He is not at all suited for the post! Poverty is still a fact of life in India and that most benefits of globalization have gone to the top 20 percent of the population. Television will show only the glamorous images today: the world will not see the pollution, the beggars, the slums or the crumbling roads. Nor will people be told of the hours of daily power cuts or the shortages of piped water, the scourges of a country that is outgrowing itself.

Many of the poor wait with open palms outside air-conditioned shopping malls and warehouse-sized department stores, neither of which existed anywhere in India ten years ago. Nor did Pizza Hut, Kentucky Fried Chicken or McDonald's.

Yes...We need a President from the political background who knows the ground realities... who knows the horrific cast system still a reality in India. We don't need a person who thinks and acts against reservations to the backward classes like our upper cast judges in court.
A person from the political background is 100 times better than a person from the business background.

debraj Narayan Murthy is against the bane of reservations in this country but that does not mean he has forgotten his roots. He has contributed a lot to the society but he is not a publicity hungry guy and thus you do not know much and show off your ignornace with pride. Let me ask, what has your contribution to the Indian society. Infosys has created so many jobs right from an office attendant, engineers, project managers, business leaders..the list is endless..this is apart from all the charity done by Infosys..what have you done or your 'cultured' leaders like Paswan or Deve Gowda done...

I have had the good fortune to meet NRN personally. He is a man with a great

debraj I totally disagree with this piece of nonsense. Enough of nationalism. It has taken us nowhere and it is not going to take us anywhere. It has only given us politicians like Lalu, paswan, deve gowda etc whose only contribution to the nation has been corruption.

Today our politicians talk and take pride in the booming Indian economy but do they know this economic growth is due to whom? It is the Indian corporates and the professionals who have helped transform the image of India from a country of snake charmers to a country of immense talent and potential.

What do you mean by 'Decultured middle class indians'? Does singing the national anthem, going to temples, showing a huge amount of pseudo repspect for elders make you cultured. You talk of culture..what is culture. Last weekend there was a pooja in our locality and the person played the mantras and bhajans in huge loud speakers...is this culture? People in India have no respect for traffic rules..is this culture? We have great respect for our mothers, sisters but Eve teasing, rape, dowry deaths are rampant in India..is this culture?
I rather not know a single word of my national anthem than be a good human being who respects the law of the land and respects human rights. We know the national anthem by heart but fail to understand its essence.

kinetic The autenticity of this news is suspect. I think this has been fabricated by somebody who favors caste based reservations and dislikes murthy for his stance on meritocracy.

Abhishek Well said Satish. I have worked with Infosys and our so called local talent is trated mych diffently from our foreign counterparts. So much so that the food served to them cannot be consumed by Indians.

There was a huge cry over these racial matters at Infosys but no action was taken by anyone. Murthy knows this but will never admit that he actually is a Media personality more than an IT'penure.

And why only Murthy, call Premji, Ratan Tata, Ambani bros, Lakshmi Mittal. All these have achieved so much more than Murthy if that is the criteria.

Bottomline...say NO to Murthy.
