Narayana Murthy as Prez would be a shame

I write this at my own risk. I know I invite the ire of Indian IT professionals by talking this way about their patron saint. Kannadiga software pros, their parents, and other Infosys worshippers will call me an...

KNT People do make mistake and one can not be held captive for a single mistake. NRN can not be compared with current crop of useless politicians like Mulayam, Lalu or Karunanidhi. NRN is a forwarding looking person and he will take country forward. He has always made positive impact to country compared to anyone mentioned in your article.

Ravi MS Who said that NR MURTHY shouldnt be president of India, what people cant analyze is that if IT wouldnt have come up like this , people in other parts of the world would have still believed that Indias are beggars, its due to people like NR murthy who have presented Indian in a better way in the world. We are recognized only because of IT Industry.

truth It is illogical , worse than political leaders comments. Can you please give your personal background please...Are you a Kannada medium educated guy and sending your guys to Govt schools. Are your relatives do so ? Can you give the statistics of how many such cultural Kannadigas willingly send their children to Kannada medium schools.Well, About politicians it is well known that they will speak for Govt schools for public, top matriculation or even abroad elite institutes for their kins(Just check with the data about all the politicians you mention.R their relatives getting education in regional language schools??). I request the media or some other guys come with statistics and throw those hypocrites away from politics. Well , NRN is not a coward like those politicians. He speaks the truth. Its better to learn yourself rather than going Govt schools. We demand improvement.Whats wrong in it.How many people from regional language schools working in CNN-IBN where you put your blogs(Its just an example.IITs,IIMs ,Foriegn chances I can list many...so many). Can we take a national survey what are prospects of English medium schools and Govt schools. Lack of choice he went to Govt school. That anyway doesn't prevent him to criticize the state of the schools today.Noway.We elected this Govt .Don't we criticize it.Believe me,most of the People who have some money in their pocket don't want to send their kids to a regional language medium to take cultural pride.Reservation again is a week point that politicians use against weaker section of the society. Well assume our grandfather was ill treated by others grandfathers. Will that affect my merit any way?? Y caste based reservations in 2007??Caste is practised by almost everybody. Not just FC people.Existence of caste can never be a reason for this kind of reservation, but the discrimination only.Educational background is major factor.NRN is 100% right in this point. English enlightens thousands of lives today. Pls don't act.

Arijit Chatterjee Satish,

One more thing. This happens when you have a burning desire to 'belong' to other people, forgetting your own.

Btw, foreigners can learn a thing or two from the beauty of the (I haven't used the word 'our', because any person of any nationality can appreciate the aesthetic in the poem) lines (forgive me for pasting the stanzas -- from Wikipedia -- in English; the poem is lost in the translation):

Thou art the ruler of the minds of all people,
dispenser of India's destiny.
Thy name rouses the hearts of Punjab, Sindh, Gujarat, the Maratha country,
in the Dravida country, Utkala (Orissa) and Bengal;
It echoes in the hills of the Vindhyas and Himalayas,
it mingles in the rhapsodies of the pure waters Jamuna and the Ganges.
They chant only thy name,
they seek only thy blessings,
They sing only thy praise.
The saving of all people waits in thy hand,
thou dispenser of India's destiny.
Victory, Victory, Victory, Victory to thee.

And here goes Francis Scott Key's 'Star Spangled Banner''s first few lines - (bombs find a brief mention):

O say, can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

No embarrassment. Just plain education about the idea of a nation. Need I say more?

Sachi The author is an amateur and very little knowledge on the person he is talking about. In fact he is gainign lots of cheap publicity by writing such articles on a great man like Mr Murthy. Mr Murthy is much more than just a successful businessman. I request the author to kindly do a bit of background before publishing such misleading articles.

sneha Though the article makes a valid point of NRN being worried abt embarrassing foreigners with our national anthem - its really shameful the way "Kannadiga" bias is being mentioned so many times. That is truely uncalled for!

Sundar Hi Satish,
Great that even before you sat down to write this you felt there would be daggers drawn at you.Accepted that infosys is one other software company and narayana murthy is one other business man but tell me what good it is when we drag and brag about unnecessary discussions.
Is it worth your and my time.I do not know whether you would read this and reply back. Why would he not make an ideal president just becuase he did not want national anthem to be sung so as to not embarass foreign people; common cut the crap and come to reality ,let us not all show pseudo patriotism.Burning effigies, stoning public property, corrupted politicians, officials, journalists, lousy conditions of streets there is lot to speak about.Petty talk like kannadigas, mallus, tamilians ,reservation is not the order of day ,agreed that back-ward classes need upliftment then is there a specific plan ,except for the one or half promises and cultural(as you proudly say) divisions being imposed on us during elections. To eradicate these we need a proper plan and people like what you mentioned will never allow that to happen. If a person like abdul kalam a visionary by himself had suggested the name of another person be it narayana murthy or narahari das,it is worth giving a thought to it.
India moving ahead needs visionaries and we people always have this attitude of insulting our heroes.Views respected but whom is it causing good my well educated freind

Srinivasan Sadagopan Agreed with the author to the point where he says NRN is too much corporatised.

I am an IT guy as well, for an assignment in NY. I had to attend one of the get-togethers near out locality. At the end of the function, the entire 10000+ people (more than 60 - 70% Asians and Africans) in that event sang the US anthem.

As the author put it perfectly,
"But, above all, coming to a foreign country, to a foreign city, to a foreign company is all about learning, appreciating, assimilating, understanding, and respecting that country's, that city's, that company's culture."

We shouldn't be ashamed of OUR anthem. WE NEED NOT BE EMBARASSED IN ANYWAY.We donot have to stop singing OUR anthem just because there are 130+ foreigners in that event. We should encourage to hum with us, I understand they cant sing our anthem right away. But we shouldn't loose our values just because of the surroundings.
