Narayana Murthy as Prez would be a shame

I write this at my own risk. I know I invite the ire of Indian IT professionals by talking this way about their patron saint. Kannadiga software pros, their parents, and other Infosys worshippers will call me an...

JS Very well put Satish . I too am a proud Indian and Kannadiga, studying abroad. When I look at the pride the Americans have in their own culture, I realise this is what differentiates both our countries. I totally agree, that NRN is not culturally open enough to be the President of our great country......

Madhu I am going the reverse way when everyone is wanting NRN to be President of India.

NRN is too precious to be a titular head of India to review march pasts, receive foreign dignitaries and sign stupid bills.

As vocal as he is, NRN can contribute to growth of India by pointing the lacunae in the system and help clean the system by being outside the system.

NRN's voice and energy will be muted if he is saddled to the President's seat.

Those who wish NRN to contribute to India's development should wish that he remains outside the SYSTEM to fight it.

Dhanya NRM, certainly has achieved a lot in a short span. However, that does not give the IT bigwig the licence to degrade our culture or the anthem which we have been singing proudly ever since our independence. There have been times when his demands have been extremely unreasonable. For instance, pressurising the kar govt to convert acres of agricultural land for industrial needs was kooky. The belief that businessmen are always money minded than anything else is crystal clear in this case. He should not even be considered as an option for this prestigious post.

lokesh One more thing i would like to add.... Narayana murthy has said that 90% of selected for recruited candidates are not fit for engineering job.. But 90% work given is not an engineering,,,its just layman job..... when cant give proper engineering job... he should not expect good engineering candidates.

ravi sathish,
Nobody is perfect in this world. Eventhough his attitude towards national anthem and kannada language is intolerable but there other very good principles he has. I feel he is a good contender for president post.

Also , One more thing , whatever may be caste struggle in the past, there shuld be no reservation. Only Merit should be the criteria for seat selection process. Why should we bother abt the past. Past is always past.

Praveen Verma you guys have the tunnel vision .... one instance is enough for you to make a opinion that Murthy is a villain . Manjunath ... you too carry a tunnel vision about business people that they only think about money .. on the other hand the truth is that its majortity of US who feel that money means success .
Since ,Inspite of best of our efforts most of us can't get the enough money ,we try to pull down others by saying that all business man are crooks .
Though Murty is deserving candidate for president ...still he should not go for it ...simply because our president is merely a rubber stamp . What difference he can make to the nation by being a president ?

Instead , if he is intereseted in public life.... he should become Rajya Shabha member and follow the path of Sardar Manmohan Singh ...

Naren NK The article is quite right in citing Mr murthy's non-patriotic nature, I would also cite another example of this. Once in the mysore campus, he had an exclusive restaurant for foreign students which was in accessible to the indian students. When asked the reason for this discrimination, they said 'Indian students lack etiquette' and foreign students may take offence to this.

We must also realise that its time to bid farewell to leaders like Deve Gowda, karunanidhi, laloo yadav. These leaders live like parasites on our society and divide and rule the same with ease. The quota issue being the most significant one, it must be implemented in the most sensitive way and the percentage should be arrived at scientifically and not be pushed down anyone's throat.

Reserving seats for a few in premier institute will not solve all problems of the under-priveleged. Our goverments are so busy amassing wealth for themselves and to elect or introduce their kins in politics that the poor and getting ignored. The rich,middle-class and under-priveleged people are not against each other, they are all victims of the system in one way or another. We are often pitted against each other and told that one stands in the way of another, this being the greatest farce of all times.

Ajay Even laloo prasasd was found sitting while the national anthem was being sung on independence day. There was no reason for the national anthem to be sung just becoz the prez had come down to infosys. There are much more important issues in the country which needs immediate attention than this. Will the writer of this article try to focus on them?

Priya A brave businessman who fought with ex-chief minister Devegowda for the roads infront of his company.
How can one expect that he will serve the country?

Ishan Singhal Nice to have diversity of views. But one question to all; whether economic and social upliftment of all human beings should be the motto or holding on to dogmatic principles and ethics more important? Nobody should be judged on just one incident and that too without knowing the complete context.
