Oh my darling son! How do I explain this...

He is 21, has never voted, is frankly more interested in Quentin Tarantino than Narendra Modi and yet was moved to pronounce Narendra Modi's ascension to the Gujarat de Gaddi as "a terrible event and a precursor of a holocaust". ...

Dinesh Shekhar Criticizing the hot-topic of the era will not bring you to the altar of fame, but what matters the most is to have some homework before writing anything that comes to mind. Be it Modi or the pseudo-secularism of the opportunist political lizards of the country, when we plan a complex issue as the major thesis, it is always better to have a deep-routed outlook on it and research the issues involved seriously, equally not forgetting the legacy of our country, especially when it involves burning issues of national importance. While accepting many failures of Modi in containing Gujarat riots, what we conveniently forget the number of Hindus died in it. Can we curse them for getting birth in the major community. Bindu, it is high time to give your son an in-depth knowledge of our country and let us pray together for him to be a proud Indian. Let him come out of the coloured fairytales of visual media and weather with the harsh realities of the world we live.

One more thing, cutting the trunk you sit, will be suicidal!

I think your son is absolutely right. Some points in resposne to the comments made by others-

People talk about Godhara as a provocation. The right way to deal with Godhara was to catch the culprits and not to let a bloodthirsty mob loose on innocent citizens for elctoral gains. It was a mass murder engineered to get votes.Everybody knows what was the staus of BJP before riots and what happened after.

People talk about development done by Modi. No amount of development condones him of the death by Genocide( yes it was a genocide and not a riot) of 2000 citizens.( yes that is the number at least , unless you are wiiling to believe the Gujrat Govt)

For the record, Gujrat govt has ben severely criticised by the supremem govt, which has shifted many riot cases out of Gujrat. International Human rights organisations and virtually all respectd media( which includes TOI, HT, indian express, India Today , outlook, Time magazine, New york timesetc has written extensive accounts of how the govt was involved. If it was a conspiracy to defame Gujarat , it was a very big one indeed!!:-) Only a blind fool will believe the Local Gujrai media which are stooges of the Govt.

Gujrat Riots was a blot on India'a culture and ethos and every patriotic indian should do all that he/she can to ensure that people like Modi are punished.

more Amitabh Well I can talk about myself here. Disinterested with Indian politics, never voted, with no opinions on burning national issues, frankly I did not even watch the Godhara coverage on TV, detached as I considered myself a helpless soul and therefore busy with self. Till the reservation thing happened. Something snapped. It was going to affect my Alma Mater. And then I was possesed. In the next one year I read and read and read, our history, our culture, political equations...From Hindu newspaper I started subscribing to Pioneer and Indian Express. I now hate the commies. Wrote a 10 page letter to The-Hindu on why they should rename their newspaper. I wrote a 100 page manuscript for a book on the student's revolution. When I look back it surprises me no end that I had no wisdom of disrrimination in a highly polarised nation. How could I be so aloof and what happened in that brief period of 17 days that I am such a changed person? It is something like I never cared to be physically strong till I encountered a situation which would have affected a girl I cared for. So frankly your son is not doing bad. He is only 21, I am twice his age. 'India will be destroyed if she takes to politics', said Swami Vivekananda. Let the true Indians stay away from politics as much as they can, especially in their formative years. Let children grow up into fine men unburdened. when their call comes I am sure they'll not be found wanting. Just read Sri Aurobindo's Prison Diary and you'll know what I mean. Best wishes to your family.

Amit Please include some 'Shuddh ghee' in the diet of your son. Seems like he is growing up on pizza and coke...

Chintan Typical urban elites who consider any assertion of hindu identity as communal and any proclamation of indian nationalism as fascist . I pity you for your ignorance.

more Subramanyam Sridharan Ms. Bindu, like you, I am also not a commie (not even of the closet variety), and I am also a normal namby pamby hindu male and I too find all this slaughtering of people, muslims, hindus, sikhs, isaai whether in Gujarat or Iraq extremely offensive. Your son, who otherwise does not seem to be interested in India, has suddenly woken up to denounce Modi using generalizations which he has probably read or heard somewhere. From what you have described of him and his attempts to reason with you, it is obvious he is repeating well worn-out cliches without application of mind. And, you ma'am, who seem to make it sound a reasonable enough counter argument with him is just as well siding with him through your pronouncements of 2000 dead etc. Please do not get me wrong. I am not a Hindu fundamentalist. What the heck, I do not even believe in religion or God. But, that's my personal preference. However, I find only majority bashing (which you have accepted fleetingly), and minority praising in this country which boasts being secular. Some sick mind, probaly Nehru and his leftist friends in the Congress, came to the conclusion that in order to be secular, the majority has to be put down ruthlessly whether they are right or wrong. They also decided that in order to provide equal opportunities to all, the majority have to run several miles more than other religionists. The pathetic division among the Hindus was helpful for such pernicious ideologies.

Therefore, my request to you ma'am, is please keep your eyes and ears open and present an unbiased opinion both to your son and the others.

sanjay It would have been better if she had given her darling son some lessons in Indian history rather than the personality of Quentin Tarantino.

It is nothing but parental faiilure to have reared such a clueless, westernised child who is unable to distinguish propaganda from reality and who has more knowlege of film stars of a distant country than elected leaders of his own.

Seems like the dude uses TV as his only window to the world, with a eye permanently cocked toward another race and another country. It is also clear that he is not well-travelled or well-read. Now I understand why Indians behave like they do in the West. It is this clueless Westernised and gullible generation that has neither the roots nor the depth to comprehend their own history and culture or the larger forces at play to destroy them. Such a wilful surrender to culture of another race and adopt a position of inferority is only fit for contempt.

Also, notice the familiar propaganda about "2000" dead Muslims, while the actual figure is 750. And the lady is careful to never mention the 200 Hindus and 50 policemen killed by Muslims, not to mention the 50 women and children roasted alive in the coach. What a Kangaroo court these Westernised "coke and pizza" Hindus run! Like mother, like son, I would say. A bunch of self-hating Hindus permanently beating their own selves!

Prahaar Madam, your 21 year old son needs some lessons in History. Ask him to dig it up for himself rather than pumping his rant on the internet. It might help you get over the frustration of a clueless adult, but shouting Hitler Hitler is not helping. He has not bothered to point out the facts and neither have you in your blog - you forgot to mention the amount of Hindus killed by the Police under modi govt. during the riots. So convenient! Such prejudiced blog!

Jignesh Shah Bindu & The Son....
Hitler dint murder jews alone alongwith he murdered many a known Germans which included former amabassadors, generals and Princess Mafalda, the daughter of King Emmanuel of Italy also. He murdered anybody who opposed him.
Joe Stalin purged big time in the 30's, which removed majority of the brilliant generals in the Red Army and that is why the Soviets had to suffer so much under the onslaught of the Nazi Armies in 41.
Comparing Narendra Modi to them is simply not knowing facts. Perhaps little more research would be on cards before this satiric take on Modi.

Rajesh Vundyala welcome back Bindu , really missed your articles all these days and your re-entry article can not be better than this, think.
Would say this is the best, sensible and impartial article todate on Modi.We are living in a country where pseudo-secularism has become a norm and bashing your own religion/faith has become fashion.I dont think any person with pinch of compassion will support what happened in Gujarat, whether the killed is hindu or muslim, unless that person is with some psychotic problems.Yes, Modi might have failed in controlling the riots after Godhra incident ,but that will not make him Hitler/Stalin and saying him so will make the issue too far fetched. One section of media and some political parties tried to exploit the situation. To write about Gujrat, there were many other things like the development ,but nothing was given importance other that rotten 5 year old riots about which god only knows the truth.
There are many more things happening in this country like Nandigram,Taslima issue,Hyderbad doc strike etc are to name few , which never got their due importance in this so-called secular and self-righteous media. This kind of selective journalism is the worst to happen to our media and if not corrected ,will lead to the media lost its credibility which has already started during Gujarat election coverage.
Thanks for your article and keep writing ...
