Omkara: A Midsummer Nightmare

Had Shakespeare been alive today, he would definitely have filed a criminal defamation suit against the entire team of Omkara. Much hyped Omkara is so disgusting. Disgusting is an understatement. It is a daylight murder of one of...

VIVECK71 Satish ji,

I feel you resort to watching doordarshan on your television. the world of good realistic artistic cinema is injurious to your health. you either read shakespearen plays or resort to discourses in the religious channels. Omkara will make you sick, angry and immoral. It will give you the shock of realism so better resort to your utopian life and watch KANK.

Chandrima Satishji..

Who said Vishal Bharadwaj has made Othello??? He has just captured Shakepearean emotions in a Modern Indian scenario...both in Maqbool and Omkara and has done so beautifully, potraying real situations...If u have such strong opinions about Omkara...I would luv to know what is ur opinion on the Corny KANK. I am sure you have loved it....and if you think that language is bad in Omkara..try roaming in Mumbai streets..once... this is the common language here...who know...it might make its way into the Hindi Dictionary in the future

Priyanka The movie is inspired from Othello and not the "presentation" of Othello. Had the film presented real Othello, it would have been completely irrelevant in today's context and to the Indian audience.

You use very strong negative words. My take is, using strong negative words does not account for true criticism.

Your take on KANK? I am so eager to read your take about "Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna". I am just wondering if you don't like a movie like Omkara, do you like KANK kind of movies!

Omkara very well presents the vulnerability of a strong man; who is respected and feared by all. I guess you are into too many rumors and when you watch the film, you judge the film according to media’s opinion and not yours. Keep aside your mind block that the movie is presenting Othello to you and watch the movie again as an Indian film in an Indian setup and then see the life the actors have given to the movie and to their respective characters (once again... try looking at them as original characters, keeping your respectable knowledge of Shakespearean literature aside).

As a reader, all I can say is, please try using some milder words to express you hatred and/or disappointment

Mohi I am fully agree with this review. This movie could be done in better frame.

U MEHTA Satish Saab...how much hours you have been spent in any Indian village, especially in north?? This movie is a clear reflection of rural north India...and I m amazed to see the perfect realistic approach of characters in this movie...which I have never been see in any Hindi movie before...this is not a movie for those who only believes in theatrical angle of cinema or those who only believes in Masala kind of cinema...this is a movie for those who really understands and knows the "BASIC REALITY" of our rural India
And as far as the concern of Shakespeare...I only can say one thing that this is a tribute to SHAKESPEARE in PREMCHAND'S way by a true Indian in a realistic form of cinematic presentation
Well-done Vishal!!!

Shawn D'Souza In my opinion mkara has done fairly well. One cannot expect an entire play to be incorporated in a 3.5 hour movie. Hats off to Vishal Bharawaj for trying it out. Vishal has tried hard to make the characters look real and he has succeeded. Trying to recreate Othello in todays context is a very difficult job. try to think what you could have done better if u had directed it.

Shakespeare himself could not have made a movie out of this play, so Vishal has done a very gud job.

rein U can't expect all the emotions in a book to be fitted into a 3 hour movie. And saif was excellent in his role.

more Debdatta Das its good to be able to critically analyse a film so closely...but I think you miss the point...it was not to create characters as they were in the original...its an adaption...with UP rural politics as its backdrop...n if u ever visited UP ionce...m sure u'd agree to the way the characters have portrayed in the film...the whole point was to be able to bring out the nature of village people living in UP...at the same time incorporating the main thene of Othello....its actually marvelous how rustic the director's been abl to make the movie, keeping the main theme intact...m sure the 'hindi movie director' wud have failed miserably if he tried to show othello....aka ajay devgan ...in the same anglicised backdrop....its a film for the masses..not for the privileged u n me who can appreciate the finesse of shakespeare....actually come to think of it 70 per cent India wouldnt have been able to do so, had the movie been made into a period movie to make the bollywood version closer to the original literary version....

The point here is whether Omkara has done justice to an epic creation by Shaakespeare. The answer is a loud and clear "NO".
I can clearly understand that Satish is a learned fan of shakespearean plays , who is getting agitated by the sheer injustice that this movie has done to an epic shakespearean play.

Satish you are very right in expressing your thoughts in such un-inhibited way.

Sun Satish, you said in your reply to one of the comments '99% of hindi films are trash and you don't watch them'
Let's see we can infer from you statement:
1% of hindi films are good and you may watch them.
So you watched Omkara therefore it must be good or is it
that you decided to comment upon it without first watching it?
Also if you don't watch 99% of films then how do you whether they are trash ?

omg the hole you dug forself is getting deeper and deeper.
