The Congress could learn a few things from the Indian cricket team.
Two young Indian men are on a unique journey. Rahul Gandhi, 37 year old MP from Amethi and bearer of India's most important political surname has just... Read The Article
Idon't agree with Sagarica.First,Rahul cannot be equalled with Dhoni who has come thro' hard grind unlike former.Rahul after spending 38 yrs of life in luxury suddenly woke up at the behestof her mother to serve the people or grab the throne !FOr DHONI of course success is there. But same has been achieved by KAPIL,SOURAV & Tendulkar

The problem is we are expecting a lot from Rahul Gandhi. We are not thinking about his problems, he can't just jump into mean politics, he has to take care of his surname. the kind of life he had should also be considered, he lost his father at an young age, he need some time to be in the active politics. But even if he does not involve in active politics its important that he surves the people who need him and are keeping a high expectation from him.

This is a very good article. Rahul Gandhi may draw the crowd, but so far has not been successful in getting Congress back to power in Gujarat and even in his turf, UP. It will be interesting to see how he fares in the next general election. If Congress is defeated, no doubt Congress will spin the story to make it look that the Gandhi family was not responsibe for the rout.

Awsome comparison. A right article at the right time. Most of the national parties in India don’t have an internal democracy system to elect their national and state level committees. Party elections are made to convince the EC or the common man that we are also a democratic party. Starting from the local committees to national level, there is forced consensus made by the intervention of leaders. These leaders are unquestionable and above criticism of any kind. Youth talent, focused on political career should be given a chance or the party election system should be redefined to make the internal election more acceptable to the grass root level party workers. Consensus is not the answer of internal party democracy. Party elections should be transparent and open to any party workers. Party memberships are not updated on the basis of loyalty. Each party should define the criteria of getting a membership. There are very parties in India who follows the democratic way of electing their leaders. EC can do a lots of contribution to make the Indian Political parties, more democratic.

Gandhi family and Congress is forgetting that in the past in India, once there was a Kaurav clan of King Dhritrashtra during God Krishna's time, who believed in what Congress believes that the you get the throne of Bharat by inheritance (janam) and not by their karam (actions). The story is not so different for Badal, Mulayam Yadav, Lalu Yadav, Sheila Dikshit, Karunanidhi, Thackeray, Scindia, etc. families. As per Hindu scriptures, King Bharat on whose name we have the name of our country said & set a precedence that a king is chosen on the basis of karam and not janam. Too bad Congress doesn't know the history of India, to take lessons from past.

I totally agree with you. Rahul Gandhi is nothing but an average poltician who has always been trying to encash brand gandhi. And let me go this far that he is among the dumbest of second gen politicians... atleast he looks so whenever he opens his mouth... the scindia n pilot Jrs are much smarter.... Yes we really need some barak obamas here in our country. The mahender singh dhonis of politics... and then people will start showing faith in politicians... I hope this happens soon... and general public, and not just criminals, starts considering politics as a career ...

Sagarika, I am afraid I don't agree with you.I think we both understand the fact that running a country is different than running a cricket team, so I won't go into painful details to prove this. The point I am trying to make here is unlike cricket or cinema talent though desired, is not the deciding factor for politics or businessman. You can always take professional help, appoint political advisors or a CXO to your company. They do the work and you take the credit. More so in Politics. Irrespective of the fact whether Rahul Gandhi has talent or not but you would agree with me that he has tons of charisma. You and me may chose to downplay him as a stupid kid, but out there the tribals in Orissa love this grandson of Indira maa. Do you really think JFK was a more capable president tha Regan or Clinton? But he ranks higher than them. One he was very charismatic and two he was assasinated. It's the public simpathy. The Gandhi family has mastered it. Though unfortunate, someone from their family has been killed at regular intervals and helped this cause. If you ask my personal opinion I would prefer a Rahul Gandhi as the PM rather than the current one. That's because when this guy becomes PM there is more possibility of a stable govt and will be absolute loyality to the king. You can always take the professional help from the "Kautilyas et al" and run the nation smooth. The only thing that would be needed to is to convince the king that reservation in IIMs is bad, we should have lower corporate tax, India should have a better relationship with Israel, KPS Gill should go to jail, we can have stricter laws against tiger poachers etc. Even you can dare to think of things like stricter birth control mechanisms and sending corrupt babus and netas to jail. Believe me a Singh or Advani or Patel can never do these. It will again take a Gandhi to break the back of enimies of the nation. One drove the British out, one dealt with Pakistan and Kalistan. Hail the emperor..

I dont agree with you regarding Gandhi's doing good to India. we need to eradicate Congress and bring a new party. election should be similar to what happens in the US (the candidate have to earn the vote). Parliament should not be electing a man as PM, he should be chosen by the people. And mind you Gandhi never broke the back of the enemies, they just left when the bank was empty. NOW WE KNOW WHO MAKES SURE THAT INDIA GOES BACKWARDS AFTER ALL THESE HARD WORK BY THE CEO's OF MANY CORPORATES and THE SWEAT OF A LOT OF TAX PAYERS...!

There have been a lot of comments about my comment to the original Blog by Sagarika. THANK YOU ALL!!Most of them are written hastily, in a passion of mood, angry tone. I thought I will respond to all that in reply to just one.My worst fear has come true by seeing these remarks about my comment. We, especially the youth of India who are well educated, have access to Internet (more than 80% of India don't), many of whom live abroad are extramely impatient and completely lack thought process. Dear friends I would request please go back to my article and read it again in a cool mind and before jumping to any conclusion, the way you jump from Infy to Wipro or TCS to IBM give it a thought. (1)I am not fan of Gandhi family, for that matter any political dynasty. But my question is why to single out Gnadhis ? Because they have been most successful at this? Except the communist parties, can you give me a single example of any notable Indian politaical party which is not dynastic? (2) How many of you are really going to join politics and try to change something in India? It's very nice to blog on a site from the cosy comfortness of our office or home. But I doubt what percentage of people who blog here have actually ever voted in India. Even if we vote what difference will it make? (3) Talking about a free and democratic India sounds very nice. But if half of India don't have the assurance of the next meal, no roof over the head and no job to go to in the morning all this talk about shining and emerging India sound phoney. My advice, please do a quick reality check of the Nation. A few lakh pizza eating kids of IT and ITES generation in Bangalore (sorry Bangaluru) and Gurgaon (hope this is still the same name) doesn't maketh a Nation. (4) I am not bothered about whether a Gandhi,Vadhra or any Patel, Scindhia, pilot, Maran ,Yadav or whatsoever leading the nation. What I am bothered about is can they give the nation a strong govt which is not hijacked by communists daily morning

Here comes a die-hard fan of Nehru family.'One drove the British out': this one sounds like what Rahul said in UP :). Are you referring to Gandhi or Nehru here. If it is Gandhi, I dont understand the connection between Gandhi who lead the freedom struggle and current pack of Gandhis. If its Nehru, I guess he did'nt drove the British out all alone. Who would convince your Rahul 'baba' that reservations in IIMs is bad, Arjun Singh?? The only Kautilya whose vision and knowledge that worked for India is P.V Narsimha Rao, whom these pompous, self centered pack of 'Kautilyas' (or I should say Buffoons) easily/conveniently ignored/side stepped for the next available Gandhi. I would say 'Hail Emperor my foot'

Dear Mr. Tripathi,
For 25 years of my life till today, I was blindly believing that India is a Free Country and Everyone in India knows it. But after reading to your comments, I kind of know that it's not true for all the Indians.. There are some (sadly like you) who believes in hierarchy and monarchy and still believes that we are BEING RULED by EMPERORS...
Though, I live in a democratic country, wouldnt stop you from hailing someone you would like to see your emperor... But please, dont try to impose your feelings to other readers, coz that might be hurting their feelings...
Hope someday you understand big empires have been rotten down because the successors of the great kings are not always as great as their predecessors... And according to the facts, I believe Nehru family is the family that has made such a mess of problems around and inside India...
I can assure you, there are many more talented and responsible enough youth in India to govern the country (Mind you, it's not ruling... India is a free country, needs governors and not emperors..) than your so called EMPEROR...
Thank you.
Umang.

Badri Bhaiyaa, You r caught in a time warp: that is the India that was, and Sagarika didi is talking of an India that is emerging. Rahul may have lots of so-called charisma, which comes from being born in the Gandhi family; no person can change the world completely. Yes, Mahatma Gandhi was a great man, but even he could not prevent the politics of India and the Congress party from falling into disrepute (because he died and we forgot about him). Even Rahul Gandhi will not be able to make all the changes that you say you want. We are seeing, finally, the emergence of a social class which stands on its merit and nothing else. And this is despite politicians (including the Gandhi family) and not because of them! Maybe being a democratic society may still see us through, and Sagarika's write-up did give me a positive feel for the whole situation. 3 Cheers to her!

We need to democratize the political parties, create institutions and allow professional people in this political field, like USA,UK. USA these days going through presidential election process, which is quite democratic, candidates are grilled, their policies are debated, here we need to deepen democratic process in grassroots levels, need to be transparent in election funding (root of all corruption), basic services health, police judiciary to be transparent to the masses and not to political masters.
Political system in India is entirely today of son/daughter of earlier generation. Local good person are not allowed upward responsibilities.
U call India is democracy, just ask common & simple man for decent quality basic amenities, police service, health, judiciary, bureaucracy. Its hell for a non influential and lower middle income person. One can say it is better than Pakistan, but we are 60 year old democracy, but only in paper, masses quality of life of basics like education, health, police is still on maibaap system! It is called very religious nation, but for dalits, peasant torture is way of life, no justice for rapist........... its long way to go MAN

Charisma amongst whom? Backward villagers in UP and Bihar? May be. I don't think he is middle class hero, like Dhoni, Ambani etc...

Your QOTD " Is Sonia political leader on her own right ? " find answer Sagarika Ghose' blog. Its true mother & son both would not have been what they are because of the name of the family they are bearing & both of them are fully aware of that & exploiting the party which has history of relying heavily on thr Family. But scenario is fast changing & merit will be main criteria for ruling the country in near future.

I fully agree with Sagarika. Rahul Gandhi pretends that he is a seasoned politician but ends up making a fool of himself wherever he goes. I, as an Indian am highly disappointed to be literally ruled by a foreigner. Congress fought for the freedom of this country from foreign rule, but 60 years later we are again being ruled by a foreigner. Our so called senior politicians are at Ms Sonia Gandhi's disposal and this is a shame!!!
