'Pigs go in herds, the lion walks alone'
That's a rough and ready translation of something Rajnikanth spouts in and as Sivaji. He says it mid-way through the film, I squirm in my seat. My membership of the... Read The Article

Author cant understand a single word in Tamil but she still manages to pick up some of the punch dialogue from the movie. As others said she has not put her sincere effort. A crap attempt in general.

Completely correct!
Oh how refreshing it is to hear opinions that match mine.
Dont pay attention to the 96 pages of comments. These are Rajni fans who wont sway. These are fans so crazy in their devotion that they're blind to objective review.
Well done on your article.

Ok, So let me make sure I understand this correctly.
You don't understand Tamil, then you went and saw a Tamil movie, and you write a review, without understanding a single dialogue said in the movie.
Did film reviews hit a new low or what! CRAP.

I read the blog and some of the comments. It seems that most South Indians are not happy with the author of the blog, which is expected since Rajni is an icon in South India. Most North Indians may not be able to appreciate the Rajni movie, which is also expected as Bollywood is not on the same wavelength as Tollywood or Kollywood or whatever wood it is.
However, author as well as the commentators have the right to have their own opinion. What is 6 from my side is 9 from your side!
Having said that, some facts are to be noted. It seems that South-wood's progress has been limited. It is where Bollywood was in 1980s and Hollywood was in 1950s[Though I am sure some quality movies must have been made]. But here is the point, Amitabh Bacchan's movie like Ajooba, Jadugar and Mithun's heroics was plainly rejected by the North Indian audience because they felt that it a step back from Deewar, Sholay et al of the 70s. But we don't see that in South Indian cinema, on the contrary Rajni's heroics are appreciated. We also wee weird bathing of his cut-outs in milk !! It was the types of Aamir and others and lately Konkana Sen, Irfan Khan which gave new life to Bollywood in form of Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikandar, Lagaan, Swades, Amu, Iqbal, Black Friday etc.
If the overall quality of Indian Cinema has to improve, then such movies have to be made more and must receieve wider critical appreciation including BO collections.

how many films that u mentioned are really hit?. Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikandar is actually a copy of hollywood movie.
What you know about south indian films and actors?.
We are 10 years ahead of bollywood in film making and film viewing by public. Most of the national award winning actors and directors are here.
In south india not only good movies comes it also becomes hits unlike the failed swades, black friday, etc We also appreciate talented actors like Kamal, mohanlal, mammootty, anand nag who are leading heros.
Unfortunately in hindi the most talented actors like naseerrudin shah, nana patekar, irfan khan, manoj pajpai are not successful as like our great actors.
Why should we reject actors like rajnikanth, chiranjeevi who are introduced by great director K.Balachandar and both acted in so many good characters in the earlier part of their career.
don't pass judjement on southindian movie on the base of one entertainment movie.

If you think hindi films have moved forward then why don't your contemporary bollywood doesn't rejects skinshow in movies like jism, murder. Why it doesn't rejects glorification of underworld and item songs. Why most of the stories are based on NRI,rich people and doesn't cares about reality of life, real issues and about middle class, poor people. If it is the moving forward then rajni films are hundred times better to watch.

I completely agree with the reporter.I understood the story and found it to be the least bit funny.I agree that he's a great actor and person and all of that, but there is absolutely nothing funny about all those fancy tricks of his!!

I think you went to the movie with a wrong expectation.Rajni movies are made keeping in mind his mass fan following in the south and what his fans expect and love from him.A movie in which rajni plays the protagonist could be comfortably tagged as "rajni movies" and it has its own mix of masalas which his fans like from him.Shankar is a director of very high calibre and he has given in the movie what rajni's fans like from him with some differences in his own way. Shankar may not have made true movies of his own direction, but has produced/producing true movies. Sivaji is a movie meant for some mass's liking and it never promised a classic true movie. Most probably you were not aware of it.If you want to watch some tamil movies that could make you feel good, i think you have to ask some one who knows about it and can guide you. Probably you could have done enough researches before posting some sarcastic comments in your review.
