The months from April to June are described as silly season for news. Summer vacations, politicians jaunting abroad, and journalists feeling the heat, where is the story, the refrain from most editors. Summer of 2007, though has been anything but... Read The Article
Well written. Whoever is asking for clarity or insight, get it right that this article is the black and white picture of the confusion prevailing in the entire indian politics(confused with so much dirt).

Though presidential election of this time happened to be a high profile in a political arena of Indai we ever had. But I dont find couple of past months were the silly season for news. India having multy political ideologies, multystates, multiculture, multy religions naturally do have silly season of the news at 24/7. Bhupen its not a new.

It doesn't make much sense. Your article shows complete lact of insight and depth.A true represetative of present day journalists. Doing political reporting does not make one great political writer. Bhupen, have some historical sense and some direction. There should be some intellectuality in the writing. Its the world ful of mediocre.

The bigger political picture is whats happening worldwide. With the economy surging globally and the world gets wealthier as never before, most political leaders are scoring their lowest ratings ever.Bush,Blair,Musarraf,Abe,Indian politicians of all parties. There has never been more contempt of politicians as is now.perhaps politics worldwide has lost its hold on the people.maybe globalisation will result in economics more than politics which will be centrestage in peoples lives.

Please understand that we know all that you have written. Please provide a little more than a summary of the events that have happened in the last few months. Lucid language is fine; bashing each and every politician is fine. But your readeers deserve more than a summary.

Yes it does not make sense more.

Just a comment on our politicians "correctness" .Come election time and they urge us to cast our vote, be it in the blazing sun or pouring rain to elect our representatives, the citizens duty. Yet when it comes to voting in the presidential polls the parties scurry for cover ,abstaining thereby playing it safe. What an apalling message this sends out! Bhupen, I predict that Modi despite all the bleeding hearts will win in Gujarat and I plead with the Government not to keep appeasing the minorities . For one, it is a miscarriage of justice to award benefits on religious lines. Second , an insult to the minority community. If India survives this lame duck government and I certainly believe it will, it will be in spite of the Government, not because of it.

Nothing, specific or substantial. All politically correct postures. We as a whole, including the Media have miserably failed the Nation by accepting some one like Pratibha Patil, because the super PM and a Comrade thought so.Who cares in this country other than, those who have to toil to make both ends meet, while the corrupt politicians enjoy their loot?

Say it bold, India has got a problem.
Both BJP and Congress have behaved like mafias and provided rock solid stability to Indian governance.
But who will tie the bell to the cat? Cat is comprised of incompetence and corrupt BJP and Congress mafias.
Dear Bhupen: A bold, true, confrontational style of journalism will identify the problem, offer a solution and ridicule the BJP/Congress mafias to hall of shame. Also in stereotype mentality of India culture, the failures and accomplishments of this political mafias need to be analyzed and be presented to people for debate.
Good work, but more is expected.

Bhupen your article was so good; your take on our Indian politics and the abashments which is what our indian politics is all about was quite impressive. Even after 59 years of independence we as citizens of this country have no other choice but to elect corrupt politicians like Mayavati. !!!!

Publicity stunt -Doctorate to Shilpa S. to generate lucritive 3times Indian fee
First it was an obsolete university conferring Doctorate to Amitabh Bachaan. This Uni. has no standing in UK Higher Education system. I was a matter of generating publicity in India to attract undergraduate and post graduate students to the university and Mr. Big B fell trap of it. Now it is Leeds Uni. which is giving bait to indian students through Shilpa S.
Sadly many of UK universites have to generate revenues as they are already in severe financial crisis and that void is filled by non UK and Non EU students who are charged three times more fee than UK student and EU students. What better way to advertise your business of study with cheap publicity than cashing on bollywood stunts.
Sadly Indians have not learned from imperialism and british colonialism. Earlier it was perfume now it is Doctorate felicitation.
Is something horribly wrong with Indians to fall in these kinds of trap. Why Dr. APJ Kalam is not given Doctorate. It is simply because the soon to be former President of India will not generate media hype and bollywood stunt and eventually British higher education system bait to charge more and more from students who are not Non UK and NonEU students, it is currently three times more. Why not Indian government take up this issue with UK and EU authorities. first question is India and China students should get benefit in terms of less fee payments as majority students enroll from India and China. Second question is Why India is not taking up this issue with European Economic Union court on fair business practices. We have seen EU ganging up on the famous Bra war, Arcelor Mittal's over blown racist propaganda and other trivial and bad business practices of EU member states. There are organizations like ILO, why there are no organizations like International Student organizations to make fee payments for under graduate and graduate students relatively same as UK & EU student
