In our time, prison is no longer the earthly equivalent of Purgatory, the ecclesiastical transit station between Heaven and Hell that allowed sinners an opportunity to repent. It is now more of a sympathy sink for celebrities - a rehab... Read The Article
Very Aptly put.Today when he is released. It is indeed imprisonment of justice. Star or whoever, Sanjay Dutt was 34 years of age in 1993 and he must have known that his friends are terrorists, by merely claiming that I did not know then or I was scared does not help. I am extremely sad that the judiciary too is part of the ruling parties these days. The UPA just lost my vote by saving Sanjay Dutt.

What a fantastic article.Excellent! It really gives a paradigm shift to anybody who sympathizes with Sanjay. It may be true that he repents now but he has to pay for whatever he has done. In fact, if he truly understood the teachings of Gandhi through his stint with the Gandhian principles on "lage raho munnabhai" he should express his willingness to serve the jail term with full conviction and order his powerful backup to endure along with him. But, what do we see out there.....emmm......are the people crazy!!!

This should be a lesson for many youngsters before embarking on doing anything unethical. No amount of repentance will change the price one has to pay for their wrong deeds

I agree with the writer. Sanjay did commit a crime and he got punishment accordingly. Nobody should be above law in this country especially politicians and celebrities. If everyone starts acquiring AK-47 and AK-56 in the name of self defence or take protection from dons and criminals rather than the police just imagine what will happen to this country? Most of the people commenting in support of sanjay were kids when blasts in mumbai killed hundreds. They dont know how deeply he was involved. Just because of his charater in Munnabhai dosnt mean he is same in real life. Reel and Real life is diff. Sanjay should gracefully except the verdict. He is a good man now but he will have to face the shadows of past!

Your article is your personal opinion, and in that its valid as it shows your point of view. However, my opinion is that neither did baba need a break from anything, certainly not frpm rhea... and the rest you are so convinced about. However for those who know him, know that he is fully aware of what he did and so is he.. We cant be using any public name or so callede celebrity to make a point on and over, even you are doing the same . i wish you too would write passionately about eve teasing and cyber crimes. And if thats getting personal, then let me tell you , that you too are getting personal . You know little, and that is not your sin. He will be out. Know that, only because there is truth. as for bunty walia, if you knew baba, you would know that, his act was justified. give up bijoy.. great piece and all that.. Maybe one day ypou will know him..

I dont agree to what the writer is saying. Since when did self defence become such a crime. The Judge himself said that Sunju is not a terrorist and was not aware of the blast. Period. So we agree he is not a threat to the society. What Justice are you guys boasting about. Common dont tell ypu are so ignorant and in denial you cant see through this whole charade.Poor guy is being victimised, If law and justise is so strong in this country how come people loke Madhani, Sarpodar are free. Also the main conspirators are not even caught, people have conveniently forgotten about them , they re only too eager to do Sanjay bashing. Also let me also enlighten all that during the bombay riots only Mr. Sunil Dutt and his family , was the only MP on the streets of Behrampada helping the riot victims. This is how he is paid for all the good work he did. And because of his popularity , Sunjay became a pawn for vested interests. it was a political game. I am ashamed and very disappointed .

Very Well written Article. This is an analysis which should be IBN live mainstream and not just BV's blog. I am surprised and embarassed at the huge downpour of emotions by so many people mainly media , Bollywood and the congress party. Nation is always bigger than individuals is a basic theme which we never learnt and have bent over many times in all the ages over few individuals and families. Law has to be same and equal for all individuals and can't be moderated for any one, else there is no equality. Sanjay is a great actor and off late might be a reformed person. Just because some one who is also hiding these guns is not punished because of corruption and incompetence is no excuse for Dutt to be freed. The media and Film personalities should wake up and work to make this nation brave and strong and not timids who can sacrifice the law because of tears and sadness. Precedence of Law being firm is something we need and follow. What survives is the spirit of nationhood and not individuals. Please strengthen the same. Honestly I am ashamed of the Congress Party taking a populist stand at this juncture where they should stand up and say - Yes the nation is bigger than few individuals. The spirit of law abiding and law enforcement should be preserved and appreciated. Also this is not at the expense of Sanjay Dutt, he has been judged correctly for the crime he did and not for the person he is and BTW as a person he too is no saint and is mortal like any of us. There is a difference between reel life and real life and let us acknowledge it. Sanjay would have done himself and his family proud had he and his family would not have made extra efforts to exert outside-legal influence by garnering public , media and Sonia's support.
