What goes around… comes around!

I was not born when, as literature says, the high caste rulers oppressed, rebuked, and castigated the low caste unfortunates. That it is still prevalent in some places in India, atleast proves that the literature was not completely incorrect. However,...

Rashmi Dear Saurabh Saksena, I, think now is became fashion people never will understand about this theory of high caste and low caste and it is creation of British and later congress and it is sad what I am writing but hurts me a lot and sorry if I hearts you.
I, will give one example every single Indian, from well to do student, from meddle class and naturally have someone at home to clean your house, cloth, cooking and he is working for all round clock to satisfied all families members and they are barking on him or her to bring these and that.
Every time I come to India I ask our friends, relatives and especially those leaving in Mumbai and Delhi and they proud of being Mumbaikar or Delhiti’s I always ask them that can you give your staff a descent cloth, ask him to shave and give him shoes when guest come at home is presentable and it look human.
But, reality is that either they have a mansion or flat they sleep in open sky and eat remain or rest of food and either is working in most richest home, Government officers and whatsoever you name it in most case this is reality I hope you understand my point. Therefore here you can say one people in exploiting other either in caste system or exploiter and exploited. I many cases you will see a Brahamin Cook from Banaras or Rajasthan is working in Mumbai or Delhi in Dalit house and his boss is barking.
These is what we are and before we preach other we should start from our home and if every affordable family gives due respect to their home staff and there are millions working in bad conditions and they will get better food, cloth and especially treated as human and if not many million will change thei life as there is saying that Charity start at home.
Therefore we Indian should start to question ourselves how selfish we are ????
Rashmi

vivek i want 2 know only one thing, if creamy layer s for obc's, what about people from sc/st, in my college students who got admission with sc/st quota have their father ,mother and forefathers working in government services, enjoying all benefits , their wards pay only 15% fees of what we pay,get scholarship, and get PG admission using the same quota, whereas me a poor obc,has to give way to them ,why s this bias, god save this country from politicians

Harish Why reservation on caste and not on economic status? If some OBC's are more rich than average Hindu Brahmin, who should get the reservation? We started reservation 60yrs back what is the result of that? In 60yrs do we see any change?

Mayur Wow u got my head spinning dude...I have always opposed the quota system and always believed that only those who deserve should get...but u got me thinking from "their" point of view and I guess "they" deserve it in their own right...some people here said 2 wrongs don't make it right or that u r justifying crime but in a sense that's not unjust at all...tell me how many of us Indians don't want to give it back to the British?? The wounds that they left in our hearts are still sore and at-least I would love to see Britain in India's feet before my time is over...and this OBC/SC/ST thing is exactly the same as the Britishers issue...our forefathers wounded their generations to no end same as the Britishers did to us...so if we think we gotta give it back to them then why do we cry foul when the OBCs get a chance to do the same...again I personally hate the quota system but the view you presented is very valid...great article once again and I hope people on this forum debate on it in a mature way...Vande Mataram

Sundip Mundkur The article "What Goes Around Comes Around" by Saurabh Saksena is well written. It is a good piece of work because it will make readers think and ask whether India is fair to all its citizens. Favoring SC/STs and in the process hurting an innocent non-SC/ST candidate is not an example of a good democracy. The policies of the Indian Government should not let a pendulum swing from one extreme to another. It is wrong to hurt innocents today for a misdeed committed by ancestors of the past. We dont live in a world of revenge. Two wrongs dont do one right. One has to be sensible. Also, misuse of IPC Section 498a - anti-dowry law by Indian women to harass and abuse innocent men today because men abused women in the past is another classic example of a flawed democracy that India is embracing. A good democracy is one where both SC/STs and non SC/STs are happy, and both men and women have equal rights. One group or another should not be favored overwhelmingly. Also, the pendulum has to be in the center and should not swing from one end to another.

What we see happening in India is a sign of under development or third world lifetyles wherein problems are too many, and a leadership does not really know how to fix problems. It is a chaotic system and shows signs of instability.

Laws have to be made by sensible people based on thought and not emotion. Laws should also be de-linked from who votes and who does not. Vote panderers even here in the US tend to make laws to favor the majority population or those who vote thereby hurting innocent folks who are fewer in number in the population. The high concentration of SC/STs and women in India seems to have tilted the scales in favor of women and SC/STs. Here in the US society is seen biased and in favor of women and whites because these two sets of people are huge voting blocks. What about the non-whites and minorities ? Are they to suffer the consequences of a free enterprise, democratic system based on majority voice.

more Sonu Raja Please tell me that you are not advocating that everything that is happening is good. Are you saying that it is okay for those who can oppress to oppress at this point, as everyone knows that what goes around comes around and therefore, we will have our day as well back again, if we are feeling oppressed today?
No sir, I think you are wrong and one misdeed should not be corrected by another. As Tagore said, I'd like to be in a country "where the mind is without fear and the head is held high.... Into the heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake." This is when real progress will have been made.
