The Gripes of Wrath

He started his Bollywood career playing the angry young man. Decades later, he continues to be angry. Only now, it's off screen. Amitabh Bachchan didnt quite like our coverage of his press conference for a game show based on his forthcoming film, Bhoothnath. Or so he hints, on his blog.

He objects to the concluding line of our story.."A far cry from the actor who once boycotted the media," only to clarify that he did so because the media banned him first. He writes: "Brilliant, CNN-IBN !! You have denounced the BIG B and come out looking superior. After all media credentials must always be on top. The last word must be ours."

Here I am tempted to blog about his blog post, simply because, in the true spirit of the blogosphere, no one ever has the last word! The debate goes on endlessly, with counter blog posts and viewer comments and responses. Every voice must be heard, spelling errors be damned. It's democratic with a capital D. All's fair in this game. We think, therefore we blog, and often it's also the other way round.

Everything Bachchan says or does seems to make news these days. So yes, you can't blame him for being a bit grumpy under all that constant media glare.

Especially when everyone's taking pot shots at him. But were we condescending or sarcastic in our story? No, we just reported what we saw. Why did he think we were being superior? I don't know. But then again, most things in Bollywood defy explanation and logic. Maybe we should all listen to Jiah Khan's character in the Bachchan-starrer Nishabd. She says, "Take light." That's just another version of that Kjo favourite, "Take a chill pill." I don't know which phrase sounds worse. But I'm going to do just that, and watch the latest mindless blockbuster. Which usually makes me angry. Just like the Big B.

What Amitabh has written in his blog, how does CNN cover his press conferences- these are not the concern. The main concern is why that person is thinking in this way.May be too much of media glare is prompting him to write all this. When person reaches some good age, some weird thoughts can be expected from him.You can take the example of Arjun Singh, giving illogical resons to posit Rahul as next PM.The real beauty is - Amitabh has got a unbiased %26 free platform to write his feelings. People can read unaltered version of his feeling over there. The result of is article is your outburst in this one. This is real fun of democracy %26 freedom of speech. ...Reply

You, media should be careful when using words. You cannot comment about history, people and do not expect to be strongly hit back. Just like you people enjoy your freedom to write, AB is enjoying his freedom with blogs. You are telling about he being sarcastic; what is that you are doing here? You are saying %22Mindless blockbuster%22 and getting angry. I suppose you are referring %22Bhoothnath%22. You as a media can only report but cannot be filled with emotion. If the movie does not do well, it is not your problem. Hence, I suggest that you exercise care and caution while reporting and also blogging. ...Reply
