Marya Shakil is Special Correspondent with CNN-IBN. She covers politics and ministries of the Union of India. Marya also reported the General Elections of 2009 and the state assembly elections of Bihar and UP. She has culled out exceptional quality of news and investigative stories from the Railways Ministry besides relentlessly covering the Railway Budget every year since 2009. Marya is one of the founder members of CNN-IBN, joining the channel immediately after completing her Masters in Mass Communication from Jamia Millia's AJK Mass Communication Research Centre in 2005. She was also awarded a research fellowship with SARAI-Centre for the Study of Developing Societies in 2004. She covered the Bihar floods of 2008, terror attacks on Samjhauta Express in 2007, anti-reservation demonstrations in 2006 and reported on the the families of the CRPF jawans who lost their lives during the Dantewada tragedy. She has anchored and produced several special news documentaries over the last 6 years on a range of issues. Marya covered the Anna Hazare campaign for Jan Lokpal bill. She was also the first TV journalist to report on the night of the clampdown of Baba Ramdev's agitation at the Ramlila Maidan. Marya calls herself a student of politics and society.
