The fact that 20 students were expelled from IIT Delhi became big news. But there are two sides to a story like most of us know. However little do we know about the other side to this story.
There must have been some good reason for the administration to take such an action. So as a student of this very institute I want to give you a sneak peak into system of IIT - Delhi and how it works
Credits are given to students for passing a particular course and this is decided before the course starts. An important thing is there is something called SRC which is applied to a student who doesn't perform well. SRC helps to keep a check on the student's performance and also suggests them to do limited number of courses so that they can score well in all.
There is also a minimum number of credits which one should complete each year to get his/her degree. They respectively are
16 at end of 1 year and 46 at end of 2 years and so on.
The most important thing here is grade F which is alloted to students who do not manage to get minimum required marks or if you have an attendance below 75 per cent.Normally these are only two ways by which you can get a F grade except if you are caught cheating or doing some thing illegal according to the institute's norms.
This information is given to the students at the time of admission and it is necessary to have rules like this so that one can complete his/her degree.
Around 500 student take admission in IIT - Delhi through JEE out of which 100 are SC/ ST.20 students are expelled from IIT out of 100.Earlier the cases of expulsion were very few but now the number has sharply increased. However, before blaming the institute we should see what was the real problem.
These students should have studied when they were aware of the consequences. Also, if they did get an F grade due to minimal attendance we cannot blame IIT.
Recently I was going through some article where I found some one saying that a certain professor makes comments that they are SC/ST . If this is true why didn't they mention the name of the professor?
The media should also do some investigation before making all this noise. Most importantly, politics should be kept away from anything regarding the campus. All they are concerned about is strengthening their vote bank.

Its been more than 60 years India got her independance. As much developing country and still there are these reservation issues.
Govt. gave the 'Scheduled' status and uplifted them. Now majority of these(SC/ST)are financially able. How long they want to wear the SC/ST status on the sleeve?
Many meritorius students are losing the seats because of the reservation system.Few of these students really dont deserve the elite status(IITs/IIMs etc).more than 60 years of upliftment and reservation....enough of it.
Total anti reservation system only allows the deserving minds to those elite institutions.
Reservation should be based on the Financial status only.
Muslims are the second largest community in the world---y do they need reservation?
Christians are another largest community in the world---y do they need reservation?
Deserving and meritorius students are losing because of the reservation.Govt. should drastically reduce the % of reservation.

What sick mentality are you talking about AK. The whole and sole purpose of reservations is to create equal opportunity. Can you statistically prove that the people who really need that opportunity are actually getting it? We still keep reading news about poor thousands of adivasis dying off hunger. Forget availing reservations, has even the concept of a reservation reached them yet? The sad part of the story is that the reservations have been used up and dominated by the already privilaged section of the so called backward society. You guys enjoy the fact that you are backward and you take pride in the fact that you are walking with crutches! Now that is not merit..is it?
Have you even thought about the fact that there are many underprivilaged amongst the so called forward class or general category? What about equal opportunity to them? Even they are deserving, then why can't they have a chance to compete? Don't forget the fact that the ancient caste system was based on different criteria than the concept of forward and backward class today. Then it was "varna" and today it is "dhana". Money does not know caste or merit, it can go to anyone! It is high time that the equality of opportunity be based on economic criteria than on the old time caste system. ...

and it shows ur mentality as well.. atleast the students in the general category had the humility to accept they are not gud enough.. the SC/ST students as usual had to raise the caste issue. ...

If a student is not doing well in studies there are two ways you can make him score better. Either by providing him good coaching, making him realise the importance of education, motivating him or by providing the question paper to the student before the exam. To me reservation is like giving the question paper before the exam which serves no purspose. Instead if we make an attempt to improve the educational facilities which is existing it not only helps the individual but improves the nation on the whole. ...
