New Zealand won the toss and chose to bowl.
The hosts kept the same side that beat the visitors by an innings in the second Test. "We will bowl first. It looks like a good wicket and there is a bit of live grass. So we need to put it in the right areas. We know that West Indies will hit us hard but we need to up our game. We are playing the same team," NZ skipper Brendon McCullum said at the toss.
West Indies, on the other end, West Indies made quite a few changes. "We would have done the same thing had we won the toss. We have to assess the conditions quickly and put up a decent total on board. Narine comes in for Shillingford, Bravo was hit yesterday during practice so he misses out and Braithwite comes in, Gabriel misses out as Permaul replaces him," said Windies skipper Darren Sammy.
