All-clear for Ind-England ODI in Kolkata

Eden Gardens will host the fifth ODI and one-off T20 International between India and England.

Kolkata: Decks were cleared on Wednesday to hold the fifth ODI and one-off T20 International between India and England at Eden Gardens in Kolkata after the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) agreed to take two representatives of PWD in its technical committee as proposed by the West Bengal government.

The Public Works Department (PWD) had been holding the required no-objection certificate for the two scheduled matches after the CAB allegedly refused to include a PWD engineer as a permanent member in the CAB technical committee.

"We will give the no-objection certificate," PWD secretary AR Bardhan told reporters after a meeting with CAB joint secretary Biswarup Dey on Wednesday.

Dey said that CAB has accepted the PWD's proposal to induct two of its representatives in its technical committee.

"We are ready to take two representatives from the PWD," he said.

PWD minister Subrata Bakshi had said on Tuesday that his department did not want to give the fitness certificate to Eden Gardens as a routine and the presence of a PWD engineer in the CAB technical committee would help in the speedy assessment of the infrastructure there.
