Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has suspended star allrounder Shakib Al Hasan for three matches after he was considered to have breached the board's code of conduct by "making an inappropriate gesture on live television" during the second ODI against Sri Lanka.
"Bangladesh cricketer Shakib Al Hasan has been penalised for breaching the BCB Code of Conduct," the board said. "Shakib appeared at a disciplinary hearing of the BCB today [Friday] and admitted the offence and accepted responsibility for the act."
As a result, Shakib will now miss Bangladesh's first two matches of the Asia Cup against India and Afghanistan.
The said incident occurred while the camera focused on the Bangladesh dressing room having show Shakib's dismissal in the second ODI. Shakib's 'hand gesture' following that was also shown on the giant screen at the ground.
Bangladesh have already conceded a series-deciding 0-2 lead to Sri Lanka, with the inconsequential last ODI to be played on Saturday.
