The third Test of the upcoming series will now be held in Hyderabad from March 14-18, the fixture switched from its original schedule.
New Delhi: Kanpur’s Green Park has been stripped of its scheduled Test match between India and Australia due to “ongoing construction”, the BCCI has announced. The third Test of the upcoming series will now be held in Hyderabad from March 13-18, the fixture switched from its original schedule.
As per the BCCI’s initial announcement, Kanpur was to host the fourth Test against Australia. But earlier this month, Cricket Australia had expressed dissatisfaction over the facilities and hospitality in Kanpur, which had led to speculation that the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium would be awarded the third Test against Australia. The BCCI awards Tests to each venue by rotation and since India have 10 home games this season, Hyderabad had first right of hosting the fourth Test against Australia, if Kanpur is ruled out.
The BCCI has not slotted in Hyderabad to host the third Test, with the fourth being held in Chennai from March 22-26. The first Test will be played in Delhi from February 22-26 and the second in Mohali from March 2-6.
“The change was necessitated because the ongoing construction activity at the Green Park, Kanpur, would not have been completed in time for the Test,” said the BCCI in a press released. “This change is as per the rotation policy of the Board.”
