Cape Cobras have the players who have performed in every format of the game, around the world.
New Delhi: If there was one tag that could define the Cape Cobras from South Africa, it will be 'powerful performers'. They have the players who have performed in every format of the game, around the world and if they fire in unision it could be very difficult for the opposition team to stop them in their tracks.
Here's a quick look at the players who could make all the difference to the team in their second showing at the Champions League T20:
Herschell Gibbs: A flamboyant top-order batsman, Gibbs has been famous for his bowler-bashing pyrotechnics in all forms of the game. He has played many a memorable knocks, and his 175 against Australia in the epic chase of 434 in the Johannebsurg ODI in 2006 has immortalised him in cricketing history. Gibbs has won an IPL title with the Deccan Chargers in 2009, where he led from the front scoring 371 runs. He also stands fourth on the list of the highest run-getters for his province in Twenty20s. The batsman played a crucial role in the Cobras' title triumph in the 2011 Standard Bank Pro20 series.
Owais Shah: A stylish stroke-player, Shah is a key player for Cobras especially as he has played for three IPL teams - Kolkata Knight Riders in 2008, Delhi Daredevils in 2009 and Kochi Tuskers Kerala in 2011. The batsman had a highly successful run in the Standard Bank Pro20, 2011, where he batted Cape Cobras to the title. He ended at the top of the run-getters chart with 293 runs at an average of 73 and a strike rate of 147.
Dale Steyn: The fastest South African to reach the 100-wicket mark in Test cricket, Steyn has succeeded in almost all conditions, even if pitches have not been to his liking. His pace and accuracy make him a lethal bowler. In 47 IPL games he has played so far, Steyn has picked up 47 wickets at an economy rate of under seven. What adds to an already dangerous package is his ability to get the ball to skid off the track, apart from the fact that he can swing the ball at will as well.
Charl Langeveldt: A superb medium-fast bowler, Langeveldt's swing can test the best of the batsmen. Having played in the IPL for the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Royal Challengers Bangalore, the right-hander has picked up just the right knowledge to contain the opposition on Indian wickets. Even though he has been on the fringes of the national team, there's no denying his potential. He's no mug with the bat either and can use the long handle to maximum effectiveness when his team needs it the most.
