    Collingwood named Durham captain

The 36-year-old has replaced Phil Mustard as Durham fail to win any of their eight Championship games in 2012.

Chester-le-Street Former England batsman Paul Collinwood has taken over Durham's captaincy from wicketkeeper Phil Mustard after the team's uninspiring run in the County Championship this year.

“We’re delighted that Paul has agreed to take on the captaincy and lead the side in the four-day competition,” said head coach Geoff Cook. "Paul’s international experience is an excellent asset to the team at a time when we need to be delivering our best results. We are grateful for Phil Mustard’s efforts as captain and he remains an integral part of the team as a key contributor behind the stumps and with the bat."

Collingwood expressed happiness at the appointment and said that he would use his experience to help the team regain the form. "I'm excited to have the opportunity. [I hope] to use my experience to help us progress in the County Championship and get us back to winning ways.”

Mustard will remain part of the side.
