Despite Chris Gayle's 46-ball 43, Jamaica Tallawahs lost by five runs chasing Guyana Amazon Warriors' target of 140 in the Carribean Premier League on Thursday.
After put in to bat, openers Lendl Simmons (30) and Martin Guptill (39) gave Guyana a decent start. Then James Franklin coming first down scored a 29-ball 40 to help Guyana to 139 for 6. Guyana's Vernon Philander claimed two wickets while Muttiah Muralitharan and Gayle picked up one wicket each.
Coming out for the chase, Jamaica lost Ahmed Shehzad early, but Gayle along with Chadwick Walton (36) kept them in the hunt before Walton fell at 66. Jamaica kept losing wickets at regular intervals and at the end of 20 overs they were left stranded at 134.
In the second match of the day, St Lucia Zouks defeated Antigua Hawkbills by 17 runs off D/L method. Opting to bat, St Lucia riding on Andre Fletcher's 53-ball 76 put up a big total of 179 in 20 overs. Antigua were 76 for 3 in 10.4 overs when rain stopped play and the match was awarded to St Lucia on the basis of D/L method.
