Dunedin: Off-spinner Graeme Swann will fly to the United States for surgery on an injured elbow after being ruled out of England's three-Test series against New Zealand.
Swann was omitted from the England XI for the first Test which started at the University Oval on Wednesday, conceding his place to Monty Panesar. Captain Alastair Cook said Swann was to undergo scans after his elbow injury flared shortly before the match.
England management announced later on Wednesday that Swann will take no further part in the New Zealand series and will fly to the US for remedial surgery. While James Tredwell will replace him in the squad.
