New Delhi: India opener Gautam Gambhir is set to return to England to rejoin county side Essex after he was forced leave for home due to a family bereavement, Sky Sports said on its website on Monday.
"Gautam returned home to India on 1 September but will now rejoin the Essex squad ahead of the trip to Kent on Wednesday 11 September in the LV= County Championship at Canterbury," Essex have confirmed.
Gambhir joined Essex late in July and faced a torrid time with the bat initially, but soon made amends with a century against Gloucestershire before being forced to return home.
Gambhir last played a Test for India against England in December 2012, following which he lost his place in the ODI set-up as well - with the selectors ignoring him for the Champions Trophy and the series against West Indies and Zimbabwe.
Gambhir's hopes to get his way back into the Indian team with a good show in English county and the new Ranji Trophy season beginning in a month's time.
