Gilchrist will have a ‘critical look’ about his fitness on Tuesday morning before making himself available for the match.
Hyderabad: Kings XI Punjab's full-time captain Adam Gilchrist, who is recovering from a hamstring injury, is still not sure of playing Tuesday's match against Deccan Chargers.
Gilchrist will have a ‘critical look’ about his fitness on Tuesday morning before making himself available for the match. "[I am] not sure about the [availability]. It [the recovery] really progressed well in the last few days, last week. Signs are positive. I will see how it goes tomorrow," Gilchrist said.
The former Aussie opener is, however, confident of playing in the return leg against Deccan on May 13. David Hussey is leading Punjab in the absence of regular skipper Gilchrist. "The thing is that we have got four or five days until our next game after this one, so I guess there is a temptation to leave one more game and have about a week's recovery. So I'll see how it is tomorrow," he added.
Gilchrist, whose team has 10 points from 11 matches, said they were still in the race for the playoffs. He said the team won some big games against Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. "Hopefully, we can play good cricket that we were playing prior to our last game [against Rajasthan Royals]. It wasn't a great performance by us. We've thought about that, and hopefully, we can turn that around tomorrow," he added.
"It's another game," said the wicketkeeper about Tuesday's match against Deccan, the team which he led to 2009 IPL title in South Africa. He said he expected a good contest. "I am happy to be back in Hyderabad. I always enjoyed playing here," he said after team's practice session here.
