New Delhi: The Victoria Bushrangers could not reach the final of the inaugural Champions League losing out to compatriot New South Wales Blues in the semi-finals, but this time the David Hussey-led side will look to improve that and make it to the title round.
The Bushrangers entered this year's CL T20 by winning the Australian domestic T20 tournament, the KFC big bash. The Melbourne-based team won the fifth edition of the competition after beating South Australia Redbacks on January 23, 2010.
Out of five matches the Bushrangers played in the group stage, they triumphed in three occasions. They beat Queensland, New South Wales and Tasmania, while South Australia and Western Australia got the better of them.
In the preliminary final, the Bushrangers beat Queensland by six wickets. Dirk Nannes clinched two wickets as Queensland reached 149, which was easily achieved by the visitors. David Hussey played a key role in the run chase, scoring 60 off 39 balls.
In the big final at Adelaide Oval, Blizzard bulldozed Redbacks bowlers with his 19-ball 42 runs. Aaron Finch too gave Bushrangers a flying start with his 47 runs. James Pattinson and Andrew McDonald took three wickets each to derail South Australia innings at 118.
All-rounder John Hastings was the most successful bowler of the tournament, claiming 10 wickets in seven matches, while Aaron Finch was the highest run getter for the side (189 runs from six matches)
