The chargesheet in the spot-fixing scandal filed by Mumbai Police on Saturday contained the conversation between former Chennai Super Kings' team principal Gurunath Meiyappan and actor Vindoo Dara Singh. The chargesheet also had details of the former international umpire Asad Rauf speaking to Vindoo about betting on one of the IPL matches.
The chargesheet said that Meiyappan used to bet through Vindoo against his own team CSK. On May 12, Meiyappan told Vindoo: "My team is going to make between 130 and 140 runs." CSK lost that match to Rajasthan Royals.
One conversation showed Vindoo calling Meiyappan and telling him to go and mix with the team. Also, Rauf's conversation with Vindoo before the IPL6 match between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals on May 15 showed how Rauf told Vindoo to place bets on that match. Rauf was the umpire in that match which Mumbai won.
"Gamble your life on Mumbai", Rauf told Vindoo. "Aaj zindagi ki haar jeet kar lo Mumbai par [bet your life on Mumbai today]" the Pakistan umpire added.
Vindoo was also caught on tape telling Jaipur brothers, "We will get the returns for all the gifts."
While Meiyappan has been charged with betting during IPL, no spot-fixing charges been levied against him. His father-in-law and BCCI president N Srinivasan has distanced himself from Meiyappan.
