South Africa named four uncapped players in the 14-member squad for the three-match series, starting Jan 19.
South Africa have rested Jacques Kallis for the three-match one-day international series against New Zealand, starting January 19. AB de Villiers returned to captain the side after he opted out from the T20s series between the two sides. Faf du Plessis led the Proteas in De Villiers’ absence.
Four uncapped players - wicketkeeper batsman Quinton de Kock, left-arm spinner Aaron Phangiso, middle order batsman Farhaan Behardien and paceman Rory Kleinveldt - have also been named in the 14-member squad.
The inclusion of De Kock, the 20-year-old youngster who impressed with his glovework and batting at the Champions League T20 competition that took place in the Rainbow nation in October, means De Villiers will not be donning the wicketkeeping gloves.
The selectors dropped six players of the group that was selected for the ODIs in England in September. Besides Duminy, who is still recovering from Achilles’ injury he suffered in Australia, Wayne Parnell, Albie Morkel, Justin Ontong, Imran Tahir and Dean Elgar, are left out. Apart from De Villiers, Test skipper Graeme Smith, Hashim Amla and Dale Steyn will form the core of the side.
Squad: AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla, Farhaan Behardien, Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis, Colin Ingram, Rory Kleinveldt, Ryan McLaren, Morne Morkel, Robbie Peterson, Aaron Phangiso, Graeme Smith, Dale Steyn, Lonwabo Tsotsobe.
