Kolkata: Conceding that even a depleted Delhi Daredevils side was capable of springing a "nasty surprise", Kolkata Knight Riders’ coach Trevor Bayliss said on Wednesday that the Virender Sehwag-led side could not be taken lightly when the two teams would face each other in their first match of IPL 5.
"Just because they [Delhi] don't have a few players, we can't take them lightly. We may get a nasty surprise. They are still a very good side," Bayliss said after his team’s practice session at the Eden Gardens.
Delhi’s main players Mahela Jayawardene, Kevin Pietersen and David Warner are busy serving their national teams, while Ross Taylor is nursing a broken hand.
The Kolkata coach said Jacques Kallis, who joined the squad on Wednesday, would be available for selection on Thursday. He said Kolkata's batsmen were capable of taking on the formidable pace attack of the Daredevils, which comprises Morne Morkel, Umesh Yadav and Doug Bracewell.
"We have good batters. I think it will be an even game, a good spectacle for the Kolkata fans. We are expecting a close battle," he said.
