Kohli threw his wicket away with a silly shot in the 51st over on Day 1.
From 63 for 4 at lunch, India were given breathing room through a 68-run partnership between Virat Kohli and VVS Laxman. Refreshingly, the pair overcame a jittery start to inspire hopes of a decent total. That is, until, Kohli threw it all away with a silly shot in the 51st over.
Less than ten minutes before tea, to the final ball of a Peter Siddle over, Kohli went for an expansive drive outside the off stump and spooned a low catch to David Warner at point. Given India's poor record of establishing partnerships on tour and that the interval was around the corner, Kohli's choice of shot selection was poor.
In Siddle's next over Laxman edged to first slip, and in matter of a few overs India had lost six wickets for 30 runs to slump to 161, their lowest total of the series.
