    IPL 5, Match 17: as it happened

    Defending a total of 134, Chawla and Bhatt bowled Punjab to a 2-run victory at the Eden Gardens.

    Kolkata Knight Riders:

    20th over: 132 for 7. Kolkata are stunned by what happened in this over. Needing nine runs from the last over would have gone any team's way. But Harmeet Singh keeps his cool to hand his team a 2-run victory against Kolkata. However, Kolkata lost the wicket of ten Doeschate, who could have helped his team achieve the target.

    19th over: 126 for 6. Now the match hangs in a balance. Kolkata need nine runs from the last over and a boundary here and there can be a deciding factor for both the teams.

    18th over: 122 for 6. 11 runs comes from this over, which included two boundaries. Debabrata Das is connecting well at the moment and can win it for his team.

    17th over: 111 for 6. Its the spinners who have brought Punjab back into the match. But things are not over at the Eden Gardens, as Debabrata Das scored two important fours to keep KKR in the hunt.

    16th over: 99 for 6. Rajat Bhatia who had a great day with the ball can pull off something with the bat also. Bhatt gives just five runs to give his team a chance for a win.

    15th over: 94 for 6. Chawla is enjoying bowling at the Eden wicket. Shakib tries to go for a big shot and top edges to be caught by Chawla off his own ball.

    14th over: 85 for 5. Shakib holds key to Kolkata's run-chase. Further wickets can dent KKR's chances, but still the game is on.

    13th over: 80 for 5. Chawla on a roll here. He gets two key wickets in this over in the form of Bisla and Yusuf Pathan.

    12th over: 79 for 3. Bhatt scalps Manoj Tiwary and a key wicket at this stage. A tossed up ball from Bhatt, hold its line and traps Tiwary in front of the wickets.

    11th over: 73 for 2. Chawla is getting sharp turn off the pitch and at the Eden it usually spins under the lights. Just three runs from this over.

    10th over: 71 for 2. Another good over from Harmeet Singh. Punjab try to choke the run-flow, so that they can build-on the pressure in the slog overs.

    9th over: 67 for 2. Piyush Chawla given the ball and starts off with a decent over. Moreover, Kolkata are not trying to do anything exaggerated and playing according to the situation.

    8th over: 61 for 2. Both the batsmen out there are in no hurry at the moment and content_cn with the odd boundaries coming their way.

    7th over: 54 for 2. Kolkata are now going at a steady rate in their chase. Manoj Tiwary and Manvinder Bisla need a decent partnership to take their team close to the target.

    6th over: 48 for 2. Tight over from Mascarenhas, just gives away seven runs, except for a scorching boundary hit by Bisla over the covers.

    5th over: 41 for 2. Praveen Kumar tries to bowl full length balls but strays down the legs and Bisla unable to take advantage of them.

    4th over: 33 for 2. Gambhir falls and a very soft dismissal. Mascarehas pitches it up and Gambhir plays straight into the hands of the bowler. The second ball goes for a six when Manvinder Bisla moves to the leg and heaves it over the ropes.

    3rd over: 22 for 1. Gambhir plays a depth cut shot off Praveen Kumar for a four. Kolkata take nine runs from this over.

    2nd over: 13 for 1. Spin pays off for Punjab. After being hit for two successive boundaries by Gambhir, Bhargav Bhatt comes back strongly to dismiss Kallis caught at the covers by Paras Dogra, who dived to his left to pull-off a stunning catch.

    1st over: 1 for 0. Great start by Praveen Kumar and backed by some brilliant fielding. Two experienced batsmen are out for Kolkata to open their innings, but the chase won't be that easy.

    Kings XI Punjab:

    20th over: 134 for 9. What a spell of offspin bowling from Narine. The West Indian bowler completes his five-wicket haul with the wicket of Harmeet Singh. Bhargav Bhatt hits a six off the last ball to take his team's score to 134 for 9 and when Kolkata come out for the chase, they might find it tough to score.

    19th over: 123 for 8. This is the most expensive over of this match. Kallis gives away 19 runs, as Piyush Chawla hits one over straight down the ground for a six and two boundaries comes off Harmeet Singh's bat.

    18th over: 104 for 8. Narine proves his class and worth here in this match. Punjab batsmen are finding it tough to score off Narine, as two wickets fall in this over also.

    17th over: 101 for 6. What an over from Rajat Bhatia - three runs and two wickets. Paras Dogra falls while going for a big shot and plays straight to long-on fielder and a ball later Dimitri Mascarenhas was caught behind by Bisla for a duck.

    16th over: 98 for 4. Another expensive Unadkat over, when from the other end things are kept tight. Bipul Sharma comfortably steps out and launches Unadkat for a huge six.

    15th over: 87 for 4. Two runs and an important wicket from this Bhatia over. Hussey falls inches short of the crease, as he gets run out due to a confusion at the middle with Dogra.

    14th over: 85 for 3. Shakib proves costly in his fourth over, as he goes for 10 runs. Last ball, Shakib pitches it up and David Hussey makes some room and belts it over long-off for a six.

    13th over: 75 for 3. Kolkata are now getting through the overs pretty quickly here. Paras Dogra is now at the crease and sees off this over from Bhatia. Here Punjab need to pick up their scoring rate to put some decent total on the board.

    12th over: 73 for 3. Another successful from Shakib. Mandeep goes for a pull off Shakib and holes up to Ryan ten Doeschate at mid-wicket boundary. The partnership of 52 runs between Mandeep and Hussey comes to an end.

    11th over: 68 for 2. Time for some medium-pace bowling and Rajat Bhatia starts off well in his first over. Mandeep and Hussey are both playing steady and maybe waiting for the right moment to up the ante.

    10th over: 60 for 2. Unadkat gives a single four in this over, but Punjab manage to score 11 runs. As of now runs are coming in the form of singles, doubles and an odd boundary here and there.

    9th over: 49 for 2. Now it's pace and spin at both the ends. David Hussey just punches the last ball off Shakib and it races down to the long-on boundary.

    8th over: 41 for 2. Mandeep welcomes Jaidev Unadkat with a scorching six over fine-leg. Unadkat bowls couple of great deliveries, which almost got the edges.

    7th over: 31 for 2. Gambhir brings in the experienced Shakib Al Hasan and the Bangladesh bowler gets through a tight over.

    6th over: 26 for 2. Kallis is getting some crucial overs through for his team. In this over, Punjab manage only to score two runs and after two quick wickets the visitors are finding it hard to score freely.

    5th over: 24 for 2. Narine comes in for his second over and gets a wicket by giving just three runs. He scalps the in-form Shaun Marsh with a ripper of a delivery that went the wrong way after pitching.

    4th over: 21 for 1. Kallis bowls a tight over by giving away just four runs. The in-form Shaun Marsh walks out to the middle to join Mandeep.

    3rd over: 17 for 1. Offspinner Sunil Narine strikes in his first over. Gilchrist going for a pull shot top edges to hand a comfortable catch to Manoj Tiwary. Just gives away three runs.

    2nd over: 14 for 0. Decent over from Jacques Kallis, except for one boundary off the last ball. Kolkata nearly got the wicket of Mandeep Singh, while going for a quick single.

    1st over: 7 for 0. Adam Gilchrist and Mandeep Singh come out to open for Punjab, while Yusuf Pathan starts the proceedings for Kolkata. Third ball of the over, Pathan tosses the ball up and Mandeep smashes it through the mid-wicket for four.

    3:30 pm: Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir won the toss and elected to bowl against Kings XI Punjab at the Eden Gardens. KKR have made one change, L Balaji misses out due to groin injury and Jaidev Unadkat comes in his place. For KXIP, Paul Valthaty and Parvinder Awana are out. Paras Dogra and Bhargav Bhatt come into the team.

    3:15 pm: Welcome to the 17th match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The win over Rajasthan Royals on Saturday could not have been better timed by KKR, who now have the luxury of their second home fixture in three days, and an opportunity to rake up their third consecutive victory.

    In spite of Kings XI Punjab's win against Pune Warriors India in their previous match, the team finds itself eighth in the standings, just ahead of the winless Deccan Chargers.
